Lesson Ways to Improve Business Practices
7 Guided by the Philosophers, Belief
System or Filipino Values

After going through this module, you are expected to generate ways to improve
business practices guided by the philosophers, belief system or Filipino values

Best business practices include discovering and utilizing the optimal ways of
operating to reach your business objectives. The process involves staying on top of the
newest operating trends of successful businesses and comparing them to your ways of
handling those same operations.

Business best practices are usually very logical and easy to implement. Let’s take a
look at some of the best practices examples:

Updating Company Software and Secure Networks

The most common reason why businesses become vulnerable to cyber-attacks is

outdated software. Always make sure all software across the company is up to date to
protect your business from devastating hacker attacks. It’s a simple task, but someone
should do it regularly.
Software companies regularly path their products to defend against new threats and
mitigate previous shortcomings.
Engaging Employees

Employees who don’t feel a sense of unity and purpose in the company won’t care
about giving their best performance. All they’ll end up caring about is the paycheck and
personal growth. To avoid this, managers must find a way to make them share company
values and vision. They need to care about the business objectives because that’s the only
way they will be enthusiastic, active, and productive.

Perfecting Regulatory Awareness

Regulation is often the bane of a small business’s existence, as you need to stay on
top of all the changes in the legal landscape of your industry. Although it can be a pain to
navigate the byzantine world of legalese and red tape, few aspects of running a business are
as important as ensuring compliance with the law. The legal landscape of regulations can
be hard to navigate, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t always be up to date on everything.
Compliance with the law is a crucial aspect of every business.

Transparency
Brand transparency has never been more important to a business. Customers care
about the brands and they try to find out everything from the inner working of the brands,
down to how materials were sourced, how products were made, and how the company came
to be. Customers root for the brand that has greater transparency and are willing to pay
more for these types of products. They remain loyal to these brands for life.
Document Each Process

Documentation serves as the roadmap for your organization—it helps you identify the
current state of a process to know how you can improve it. And every task that needs to be
done more than once and by multiple people needs to be documented. If you do so, it will
provide consistency for your organization and it allows you to monitor and revise processes
as you go along. Documentation also prevents procedures from going unused due to lack of
understanding, and it helps to determine if processes are efficient of if certain steps need to
be revised. Documenting process may be time-consuming, but it provides numerous benefits
to your organization that make it well worth the effort it.

Setting Team Expectation

Setting proper team expectation is important to practice in your workplace because
ever since, accountability has become impactful to any form of businesses. Get it done by
gathering your employees, managers, and executives twice a month to discuss each
department’s accomplishments and challenges so they would know the things that need
improvement.

Reward Your Team

It’s important for your team to feel appreciated. Recognition for their work and effort
can improve your company culture and is also an incentive for them to produce quality work.
Their achievements being overlooked can make employees feel undervalued, which can
lead to low retention rates for your company. When you reward or recognize your team for
their work, they are more likely to feel appreciated and work hard.

It’s important to choose the right reward system for your business. Bonuses, extra
PTO (Paid Time Off) and company competitions are all good ways to incentivize
performance, but it’s also important to brainstorm ways to show your appreciation for good
work that’s already been completed. This can mean setting up an independent reward
system, or it can take the form of unstructured thank you. Taking the team-out to an
impromptu lunch to thank them for a good performance is one strategy for showing
appreciation in a small way.

Hold Regular Team Meetings

Communication is the key, both in terms of offering feedback and giving employees
the floor to voice their opinions on work matters. Team meetings provide headspace for your
workers to exercise new ideas and collaborate on how to improve your business. When your
business is progressing, it’s easy for employees to get siloed into their own work and
departments. Dedicating time for you and your staff to meet during the week fosters team
building and camaraderie.
