Design of Solid Slab AND HOLLOW BLOCK SLAB

This document provides design guidelines for solid slab and hollow block slab reinforced concrete structures. It outlines the steps to: 1) Determine the slab type based on rectangularity ratio and dimensions; 2) Calculate loads and check empirical formulas; 3) Find minimum steel reinforcement areas and amounts based on bending moments; and 4) Check shear capacity and provide shear reinforcement if needed. The process involves calculating loads, bending moments, required steel areas, and checking design limits at each stage of the slab and hollow block design.

:Design of solid slab-9.11

a.find the type of slab by calculating the rectangularity ratio r=(mL/nS) >
2 one way solid slab
b.calculate the dimensions t from table 6.3 for slab then check t<16cm and
t >8cm
c.find the load DL=2.5x1xt+cover x1+ ow x1= dl in ton/meter
Wmax=1.4xDL +1.7LL and Wmin =0.9DL
d. check if we can use emperical formula from data book: ((L2-
, L1)x100)/L2<20
w2=0<20/)x100)w2-w1((
LL< 0.5t.m²
LL<3DL
e.assume d=0.9t
calculate Asmin page 8.19
calculate (M/0.9xbxd) where b =1000mm and d is in mm
then find ƿ from appendix A according to fc then multiply ƿ by bd
As=ƿbd >Asmin if As<Asmin take As=Asmin
Find the ƿ for all positive and negative moment to obtain As for all span
Asꞌ=As/5

:Hollow block slab

a.find the type of slab by calculating the rectangularity ratio r=(mL/nS) >
2 one way hollow block slab and if r<2 two way hollow block slab
b.find the dimensions of slab : h is obtain from table 6.3 for beams check
h>20cm and h<30cm
hollow block exbxa
ts=h-a and check ts>5cm and ts>(e/12) and assume that width of the rib
b=10cm and B=e+b
c.calculate the load for b=1meter
DL= tsx2.5x1 + cover x 1+1x1xa
Wmax=1.4DL +1.7LL
Wmax/rib=(Wmax x B) and B is in meter
:d. check if we can use emperical formula from data book

e.for each of the positive moment calculate the As as the following

Asmin = 0.002x1000xh(h in milimeter)
Assume d = 0.9 h and assume c<ts
Mu=0.9x0.85xfcꞌBa(d-0.5a) then by quadric equation find a and check
a>0.1d if a<0.1d assume a=0.1d
Then find As=Mu/(0.9fy(d-0.5a)) and check As>Asmin
f.take the largest negative moment annd find the resistance over the
support/rib then 0.85fcꞌba=Asfy and (b=100mm and As isgreatest steel
for positive moment)
Then calculate a and check a>0.1d if a<0.1d assume a=0.1d
Moment resistance MR=0.9Asfy(d-0.5a) and check MR>Mapplied(Ma is
greatest negative moment) the section is safe
And if MR<Ma consider the solid section

:g.consider the solid section

Moment Mss=Ma/B
Mss=0.9x0.85fcꞌba(d-0.5a) where b =1000mm
Then calculate a and check a>0.1d if a<0.1d assume a=0.1d
Asrequired/rib=B(Mss/(0.9fy(d-0.5a)) (B in meter and Mss in Mpa) then
compare with As provided(As provided isAs calculated for positive
moment)
If Asreq/rib<As pro then use minimum steel reinforcement for solid
section 4Ø10mm
Asreq/rib-Aspro<4Ø10mm then ok solid section is satisfied if not then we
have to increase steel reinforcment or increase the solid section
:h.check the width of the solid section
consider the span between greatest negatove moment
Mcr is at d in meter=0.5e+0.15
Mcr=Mmax negative/rib-yd+wmax/rib(0.5d)²
Mcr<MR/rib then the section is safe
If Mcr<MR/rib then we have to increase solid section width

:i.check of shear
calculate Qmax/rib at distance d
qu=(Q/(bd)) where b=100mm and d =0.9h
Vc=(1/3)√(fcꞌ)>qu no need for shear reinforcementuse two branches
Ø8mm at each 20 cm
j.perpendicular to rib As=0.002(1000(h-d))
parallel to the rib use As=4Ø6mm
k.cross rib
LL<300kg/m², use one cross rib
As bottom=2Ø14mm
Astop=2Ø 12mm
