Workflow 1: 1. The Foundation
WORKFLOW 1
1st Rule: Do not think about the goal, think about the next step.
3rd Rule: When you add anything to the track, it does not need to be perfect. The Process
will make it perfect. Trust the process.
4th Rule: Enjoy the process. If you do not enjoy what you have created, go back to the
foundation and find sounds that spark something different in you.
1. The Foundation
1. Add to the Session View: 1x At Least Drums Sample, 1x Bass Sample & 1x Percussion Sample.
3. Fit the samples together, using the Scenes as a way to play them at the same time. Create at least 3
different Scenes, with variable combinations of samples.
4. Arrange the Scenes into a song structure in the Arrangement View. Name the Scenes accordingly.
(From top to bottom. For example, first scene ‘intro’, second ‘verse’, third ‘chorus’ etc.)
5. Record the song to the Arrangement View, whilst playing the Scenes in the order you put them in.
• Duplicate/Delete Time
2. The Walls
1. Think what the song and the different parts of the song ‘need’.
2. Add a MIDI instrument or find a sample, that is in the same key as the bass sample.
3. Add MIDI FX, such as Arpeggiator and Chord to create melodic sequence or chord progression.
4. To avoid creative confusion, it is good not to get too excited and add too many instruments at this
point. Wait until you have finished ‘The Decoration’, then add whatever you think it still needs.
3. The Decoration
1. Concentrate on the sounds you are not a big fan of at this point, and use these methods to
customise them to your preferences: Audio & MIDI Effects, Synthesis, Dynamic/time/pitch
processing.
2. When you are ready: Freeze the track and ‘Flatten’ to save CPU power and to make the session
more clear.
