Answer Sheet in General Biology Week 2 ACTIVITY 1: Prokaryotic Cell vs. Eukaryotic Cell

This document contains a summary of key activities and concepts covered in a general biology class during week 2. It includes: 1) A comparison of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell structures and reproduction methods. 2) Identification of cell types in different plant and animal tissues and their functions. 3) How cell type identification can help diagnose diseases by examining cells in urine samples. 4) The purpose of different cell structures like root hairs and how cells adapt to their environments. 5) A question on maintaining mental health during the pandemic and why cellular adaptation is beneficial.

ACTIVITY 5: Life Connections

1. Cell type identification is one of the most important topics

in the field of medicine. A Cell is the basic unit of life
by identifying the cell it gives the information, structure,
and role of the cell which can indicate the health of the
organism, with cell-type identification, diseases can be
detectable.

2. If epithelial cells are present in urine it may indicate

inflammation within the bladder, casa and cellular debris
indicate injury to the kidney such as inflammation or lack
of blood flow to the kidney, tumor cells suggest urinary
tract cancer. A large number of red blood cells can indicate
infection, trauma, tumors, or the presence of kidney stones.
If red blood cells are in the distorted form it may indicate
kidney inflammation. And the change in the normal number of
leukocytes suggests UTI, cystitis, or pyelonephritis.

3. The doctors use the abnormal number of white blood cells in

urine to identify whether the patients have urinary tract
infection by looking at the number of white blood cells or
leukocytes. If the number of leukocytes is above average it
suggests that there is an infection within the urinary tract
system, this is due to leukocytes responsible for fighting
bacteria and viruses. With a large number of white blood
cells indicates that leukocytes are fighting an infection
within the bladder.

Reflection

1. I learned the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic

cells and the function of animal and plant tissues.

2. I enjoyed most or understanding the lesson.

3. I want to learn more on cells

ACTIVITY 1:

1. It’s important for cells to have the ability to adapt to

their environment by creating different type of cells for a
specific purpose.

2. To protect the organism from harmful organism and

particulates by secreting a mucus thus trapping them and
moving the out of the body.

3. It increases the surface area of the intestine to have a

better absorptivity of nutrients.

4. Root hairs increase the surface area for a higher intake of

water, minerals, and nutrients.

ACTIVITY 2: QUESTION TO PONDER

1. During the pandemic I manage to invest myself to novels,

games and series to fight boredom and have a stable mental
health.

2. Yes, because our environment changes constantly with cells

have a better and higher chance of survival if cells adapt
their selves to their environment.

Reflection

4. I learned that the purpose of cell modification and the

function of specialized plant and animal cells.

5. I enjoyed most on learning a new information.

6. I want to learn more on different types of cell.
