LO1 Research the properties and characteristics of fabrics and fibres, in the production of garments,
through historic and contemporary precedents.
LO2 Create a pattern, based on body measurements, using industry standard signs and symbols, in
response to a given brief.
LO3 Create toiles and final garments, demonstrating the safe use of equipment and relevant health
and safety regulations.
LO4 Produce a finished garment, evaluate and carry out quality checks.
To accompany a special ‘Fashion Through the Ages’ exhibit, you will research a specific era (time
period) to explore the cultural influences of that particular time in history. This should form the basis
for your ongoing research and production.
Based on your contextual research, you will consider a range of fabrics/fibres and production
techniques, producing a small portfolio of fabrics/stitched samples. To begin your process of
developing a pattern and garment, you will undertake full body measurements to establish the
parameters for your pattern and subsequent toiles and garments.
Your toile outcome will be produced in plain calico fabric and then displayed on a mannequin.
You will also produce a record of the product’s construction and manufacture.
The sequence of operation could take the form of a creative flow diagram or step-by-step guide. You
will also include some photographs of your finished garment in use, being worn.
