ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be
able to do by the end of this lesson:

practice and to demonstrate their learning in a
variety of ways.
Student learning to a higher level of Bloom’s Critical Thinking Levels will be promoted by asking
higher-level questions in the Blooket that aren’t based solely on memorization.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and are
mostly practice-based.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher
facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects
to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the
classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s
morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class,
or publishing via an outside source.)

Web 2.0 Tools for Communication and Collaboration
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher creates a Padlet for students to go through and learn about the three branches of
government. The Padlet features a class discussion, interactive game, two Ed Puzzles, and a
Blooket. The teacher will access students’ prior knowledge by asking them a question on the
Padlet about the White House and the President and what they know about them. A fun,
interactive, and real-world situation game will be played by students as they complete the
Padlet that allows them to “run the government.” Student learning will be assessed through
two Ed Puzzles and a Blooket that will be completed as a class at the end of the lesson to see if
students are meeting the standard.

Managing student learning:
The tools used for this lesson cause students to move from passive to active social learners,
because it engages them and places a responsibility on them to learn versus the teacher
standing and lecturing the class.
Students will be kept on task by the teacher walking around and helping students if needed.
Students will also be given a time limit of 30 minutes to complete all the activities minus the
Blooket. After students post their responses to the first question, there will be a class
discussion where students will be able to share what they know.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Students will be engaged in a variety of ways throughout this lesson plan. First, they will be
involved in an engaging discussion. Then, they will complete two Ed Puzzles in which they must
remain attentive to be able to answer its questions accurately. They will also play an engaging
game and lastly compete in a Blooket. As listed above, this lesson plan provides multiple means
of representation, so students with different learning styles are supported. The UDL principle of
expression is seen throughout this lesson because students are given multiple ways to express
their learning.
Reflective Practice:
This tool will help students build an understanding in a way they could not with traditional
tools, because traditional tools do not allow for as much collaboration as Web 2.0 tools. I look
forward to implementing the Blooket most, because I think the kids will have a lot of fun, and
it’s a great way for me to assess their learning.
