GRADUATE SCHOOL
EXECUTIVE BRIEF FOR THE THESIS TITLE PROPOSAL

Proponent Maileen L. Sangalang

Program Master of Arts in Education, major in Educational
Management
Proposed Topic/Title Assessing Students’ Performance Tasks in the
New Normal: Inputs for the Development of
Assessment Tools in TLE 8
Motivation of the Researcher Assessment is an important aspect in the
delivery of quality instruction in the teaching and
learning process becomes a challenge to teachers,
especially in the new normal. Teachers and
students are distant from each other, both have the
apprehension on whether the performance tasks
were done all by students themselves. With this,
teachers need to keep track of the tasks being
performed by students like what they usually do.
Though the mode of learning has an abrupt
change, assessment of the performance of the
students must continue to be monitored and
developed. This gave the researcher to deal with
this topic as the focus of her research to explore
how teachers conduct an assessment on students’
performance tasks which aims to gather inputs for
enhanced assessment tolls in TLE Grade 8.
Research Gap The pursuit for quality education,
including that in the basic education levels, for
sustainable development, is clearly described in
the Education for Sustainable Development
(ESD), one of the17 Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) by the United Nations.
Accordingly, to equip students, with knowledge,
skills, attitudes, and values they'll need to face
the difficulties along with sustainable
development, there is a need to update some
processes currently utilized in Technology and
Livelihood Education subject. For this reason,
alternative activities and assessment methods,
like the use of performance task assessment are
needed to improve both the quality of teaching
and to provide a meaningful learning experience
to students. Relevant literature dwells on other
learning areas on too general in nature but no
specific study on TLE as the learning area. This
gap has created the point of interest on the
researcher to pursue this study.
Statement of the Problem The study will focus on how TLE teachers assess
the performance tasks of students. Specifically, it
seeks answers to the following questions:
1. What are the ways of teachers in
assessing the performance tasks of the
students?
2. How do teachers choose or create
assessment tools in assessing the
submitted performance tasks of students?
3. What fitted assessment tools in the new
normal may be proposed to monitor
students learning?
Research Design The study will adopt the descriptive
qualitative research design. According to
Creswell (2012), qualitative research involves
collecting and analyzing non-numerical data (e.g.,
text, video, or audio) to understand concepts,
opinions, or experiences. It can be used to gather
in-depth insights into a problem or generate new
ideas for research. In the proposed study, the
statements and views of the teachers will be
gathered and analyzed which are expected to
bring output to the study.
Respondents/ Participants Qualified participants based on the set
criteria will serve as the participants in the study.
More so, participants will be grade 8 TLE
teachers in Cluster 3 (Floridablanca and Lubao,
Pampanga).
