TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS:

LAKE DANAO
Lake Danao
 Lake Danao is considered as Ormoc City’s main natural attraction. This violin-
shaped lake on the mountains of Ormoc was previously named Lake Imelda but
was changed to Lake Danao Natural Park afterwards. It is covering an area of
148 hectares and is about 700 meters above sea level. The lake that also
includes the Amandawin mountain range is 18 kilometers northeast of Ormoc
City, half an hour drive along the Milagro – Lake Danao and San Pablo –
Tongonan roads.

 According to experts, this lake is volcanic in origin like the popular Taal Lake in
Tagaytay City. It is a depression produced by the Leyte Central Fault, an active
fault passing through the lake area in N-S direction. Most rock formations that
surrounds the lake are andesitic volcanic rocks. At more or less 700 meters
above sea level, Lake Danao lies on an altitude similar to Tagaytay, making the
area cooler than the average Philippine temperature.
Products and Services Offered
 Food vendors awaits you in the lake, they offered and sell “paluto” and “to cook”
foods. They sell it to an affordable price. Mostly of the foods are prices that way
per order in Php 100. They also have different cuisine that every tourist must try
as they would visit the lake.

 In just 25 pesos you can try some of the popular activities like riding a kayak,
renting some boats, paddle boating, and the lake also have some floating cottage
in the middle of the lake that you can really enjoy, viewing the guitar-shaped lake
in 150 pesos every hour.

 Within the location you can ride multi-cabs when you are about to leave and go
back to the city proper. Public transportation is available for a certain time, so you
will wait or you can negotiate the multi-cab driver.

The three (3) important tourism stakeholders and reports on their contributions to the
destination.

 Transportation – There is a strong relationship between transport and

tourism. Transportation is a fundamental driver of the tourism industry. It is a
precondition for travel since it facilitates mobility and the movement of tourists
from their place of origin to their destination and back. As such, the method of
transport between point A and point B is an integral part of the tourism
system, thus making the transport providers important stakeholders in tourism
and economic development. There are several options for transportation. It
can be quantified in terms of employment and added value. There is an
increase in job opportunities, which helps to raise a country’s national
revenue. It also provides a viable option for consumers to enjoy themselves.

To get to Lake Danao by public transport look for the terminal near the public
market at Ormoc City for jeepneys and multi-cabs bound for Bgy. Lake
Danao. The ride can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour long via
multi-cab, the lightweight, four-wheeled vehicles popular in the provinces
used to reach areas not served by jeepneys. (We made it in 45 minutes.)
Fare is P40. We were fortunate to board a multi-cab at the terminal but never
saw a jeepney. There are only a few multi-cabs headed to Lake Danao so if
you are not able to catch one you can ride a trike to Barangay Dolores, then
at the latter ride a habal-habal motorbike to Lake Danao. The lake is a 5-
minute walk from the multi-cab stop near the barangay hall. However, our
multi-cab driver drove us all the way to the lake entrance – very good for us
because the sun had already gotten a bit hot at the time.

 Government – The government plays a key role in the tourism industry, it will
dictate various rules, requirements, and practices, from visa policies to
maintaining public infrastructure throughout the different levels of tourism
policy and planning. These policies can take a top-down approach, for
example, by international or national bodies, or a bottom-up approach, from a
local level.

Ormoc City is eyeing Lake Danao as part of its plan to develop an alternative
source to ensure a stable water supply to 82 percent of its communities in the
next 25 years.

“By year 2045, Ormoc City is projected to have a water deficit of around 26
megaliters per day, which highlights the importance of developing an
alternative, dependable and sustainable source of water,” Ormoc City Mayor
Richard Gomez said in a statement.

 Local People – Local people are also important in tourism development. They
may have legitimate concerns and may resist any tourism development.
Therefore, they need to be involved in the decision-making process where
appropriate. With their distinct values and cultures, local people can add
value to any tourist attraction. Being hospitable to tourists is a great way to
make them feel comfortable during the trip. Another thing that locals can do is
share more about their culture and customs as this will help tourists
understand local etiquette, and as a result, they will enjoy and appreciate their
trip even more.
The stakeholder that is need to be improve in Lake Danao is their utilities and
infrastructure. The lake is lacking in some of their utilities and infrastructures that is very
essential especially that the place is already known and famous.
Ormoc City Tourism officer Ira Bantasan said the city government has allotted P5 million
for infrastructure and other activities at the park, adding that the on-going construction
of the view deck and rest rooms will soon be completed.
She called on the village residents to help in the proper maintenance of the park’s
surroundings and facilities to entice more park visitors.
Also, it would be great if their floating cottages would to be improve and upgraded into
much more accommodating infrastructure and could cater overnight stay. Lastly, having
a floating restaurant will also be an add to the attraction. A restaurant that would offer
variety of foods and drinks for tourist.
