From 2019, graduates with bachelor’s degrees covered by the international agreement known as
the Washington Accord (WA) will need to complete some form of further learning to master’s level
in order to satisfy the academic requirement of qualifying for CEng MICE.

Use the knowledge gained at work to bridge the gap between BEng and masters level
learning outcomes
With normally at least 5 years’ experience
Written submission based on one or two projects
Demonstrate evidence in four key areas
i. Comprehensive understanding of design processes and methodologies
ii. Lead projects in the context of safety, commercial, legal, social, ethical, and sustainability principles
iii. Communication, leadership, and taking on responsibilities

Technical Statement
• Describe a project, scheme or operation that you have been involved in which
demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge and understanding and application of
engineering principles, technologies and processes to the analysis and
solution of complex problems.
Give examples from the project where data may be uncertain or incomplete and
discuss the limitations of the techniques employed.

ICE Exam – Pilot Exam in HK
• Following the success of the ICE Exam held in London in 2019, ICE offered a pilot
exam to Hong Kong based Graduate Members in Oct 2021.
• The intention is that we make the Exam available as a pilot in October 2021 with
full roll-out in 2022.

At CPR/CPRP you are expected to demonstrate you have organised your thoughts and
present them logically, in the form and style of the writing is appropriate for the intended
audience.
The candidate will be expected to respond as an engaged civil engineer, not as a technical
expert.

Communication Task – Important Notes
• There is no pass or fail for the Communication Task by itself. It forms only one
part of the assessment of the Interpersonal Skills and Communication attribute
and reviewers are expected to make a holistic judgement alongside your report,
presentation and interview.
• Candidates are free to use visual aids in their response if they wish, but the
assessment is based on their ability to write clearly and effectively. Therefore, a
presentation alone would not be sufficient.
