Narrative Report On Barkada Kontra Droga
In observance to the DepEd Memorandum No. 128 s. 2019, Dr. Ramon de Santos joined the
celebration of this year’s Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week. This event was carried out for five
working school days, conceptualized and planned by the NDEP and BKD Coordinator of the school and
supported by the School Principal.
The celebration aimed to raise the awareness of the students, teachers & other stakeholders
about the harmful effects of drug abuse to man’s life and to further strengthen everyone’s capabilities
to fight against illegal drugs.
The Kick- off Program of activities was held on November 18, 2019. The program was initiated
by persuasive opening remarks of Sir Jerry S. Mallari, the Head Teacher of ESP Department on behalf of
the School Principal, to motivate everyone to join in the Celebration of the Drug Abuse Awareness
Activities. To highlight the Kick-off program, the students in all levels were advised and given a schedule
to watch a very significant film on Drug Addiction. Students’ opinions, reflections about the film were
extracted from the students to determine how the message of the film affects their perceptions about
illegal drugs.
On the Spot Slogan and Poster making contest was conducted on the next day of celebration to
bring out the best output of students that shows their own understanding of this year theme:
Katarungan para sa Kalusugan, Kalusugan para sa Katarungan”. The purpose of this undertaking is not
only to show the artistic talents of the students but most importantly to have another venue in
providing significant message to people in artistic way how drugs can ruin everything in the lives of
victims. It is a friendly competition among students by making visual that expresses their opinion,
analyzation reaction about drug addiction. This contest also requires the students to think and create
under time pressure.
Information Dissemination is proven effective to raise social awareness on every social issue. It is
a form of advertisement which is aimed at educating the students on something that has relevance to
the community. One of the significant contests held in this year celebration was Infomercial. This
competition was intended for the students with their own interpretation on drug addiction. The
effective way to relay message about drug addiction to viewers was the main component of the
infomercial.
To further escalate the excitement of the students in joining the celebration, the Battle of the
Bands: “Banda Kontra Droga” was part of the program of activities. the purpose of this contest is to
promote culture of live music performance, encourage and develop musicianship among students while
raising awareness on drug addiction. This enabled us to educate students and share key information
about the issues involving drug addiction.
The culminating program was held on November 23, 2019. It started with Katok, Lakad
at Takbo laban sa Droga at 6:00 in the morning. While we were having a parade, we distributed
pamphlets to disseminate information about the effects of drug addiction then subsequently
followed by the Symposium on Drug Awareness in the school’s gymnasium. A Doxology
performed by the Grade 10-STE students marks the beginning of the ceremony, followed by the
interfaith prayer conducted by Pastor Paul Orcales, an ESP teacher.
The singing of the national anthem was conducted by Mrs. Mona Cris G. Sawit. A
message from Mrs. Melody M. Mandaga, NDEP Coordinator of Cuyapo District and Science
Department Head Teacher was delivered with emphasis on the role of the Class Officers of
each section for them to be responsible and role model to demonstrate clean living and healthy
lifestyle with strong conviction not engage into Drugs.
The School Principal, Mrs. Evelyn S. Reyes, also gave an inspirational message. She
shared a wonderful story on how drugs are used to conquer nation, this shows that drugs
conquers the mind and body of the people which makes them dependent to their provider She
also said that a good Leader should have a healthy body. She also challenged the students on
becoming a good and effective leader.
The Assistant Principal, Sir Moises M. Cadalso reiterated the message of the Principal
that a leader should be responsible in familiarizing themselves with the behaviour of their
followers, anytime that they demonstrate unusual behaviour, they can make appropriate
intervention in order to avoid from worsening the condition. He encouraged the audience to
listen intently to the speakers to gain knowledge and be able to share with their classmates and
families. .
The MAPEH Department’s Area Chairman, Sir Eric C. Cuaresma, caught the attention of
the students when he shared an acronym for DROGA which stands for D-Determination to
dodge illegal drugs. R- Respect for yourself because the body is the temple of God. O-Offer
yourself to G-God. Be connected to God to have enlightenment on how life is. An A-Ambition
not just for yourself but for your family and for the country. After this informative message from
Sir Cuaresma, he introduced the Resource Speakers for this symposium.
The first resource speaker was PLt. Col. Victor A. Cacdac, the Chief of Police of PNP
Cuyapo. He is a nurse by profession before becoming a policeman. He discussed about the
history of illegal drugs and stated that the Americans started using marijuana as medicine.
Eventually the usage of marijuana became illegal due to the abusive tendencies of some users.
During 1970-1980 the usage of marijuana became illegal even in minimal dosage. He
accentuated that the students must be keen observers and vigilant because they are the ones
who are easily influenced by their peers. Being a good leader was the main concern of the
guest speaker, according to him, they should influence their classmates to never ever be curios
to try illegal drugs because it will affect their lives and the rests.
Together with Sir Cacdac was another PNP Representative, Police Corporal Joy
Nartates, who introduced that drug prevention campaign organized by their department. The
PNP Representative together with the class officers presented a video clip indicating that they
support KDAT or the Kontra Droga at Terorismo Program. She warned the students about the
recruitment strategies of the terrorists targeting young minds. And for the students to be
familiarized with the authorized uniform of AFP and PNP in order for them not to be deceived by
anyone, She showed to the audience their authorized uniforms.
The second resource speaker, Sir Jordan Dale Canosa of English Department in
DRDSNHS, shared the reasons of people using illegal drugs and the signs of drug addiction
and how the life of victim being consumed by the illegal drugs.
And to conclude the Symposium as part of the Culminating Program in the celebration of
Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week, Mrs. Editha Marquez, the schools’ Guidance
Coordinator convinced the students to be good leaders and role models. She ended her
remarks in saying, “NO TO DRUGS, YES TO GOD”.
