THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD

th
37 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit

Problems Discussed:
1. Women’s role in building a sustainable and inclusive ASEAN community
I’m glad that the ASEAN were able to come up with plans that benefits women.
For years, women has been struggling to fight the stigma thrown at them because of
their gender. To know that the ASEAN are recognizing women’s role in the society and
be able to establish a plan that would them is something very important for us,
Southeast Asian women.
2. Plan on elimination of the worst forms of Child labor by 2025
Child labor has been a big problem for years. In Philippines, for example, we
have discovered some worst forms of child labor. It’s good that they have plans on
eliminating these worst forms but I hope, right after, they could eliminate all possible
forms of child labor. Children need to live in an environment where they can be the
children that they are, free-spirited and happy, and are not force to earn money at a
very young age.
3. Implementation plan on enhancing health systems
Enhancing health systems will really help in the preparation of pandemic like
what we have right now. Health is the most important thing for a person. To have a
proper healthcare systems would be very beneficial for the ASEAN community.
4. Minimizing the negative effects of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
We really can’t deny the destructions the pandemic has brought the world, not
just in the lives of the people but in the socio-economic aspects as well. I know it would
take long to recover but it’s good that the ASEAN has plan on the minimization of the
effects of COVID-19.
5. Promotion of the Micro, Small and Medium enterprises in ASEAN
It’s about time that we give importance to these micro to medium enterprises.
They have shown resilience despite many hindrances. ASEAN is doing the right thing in
promoting them because even if they don’t make much profit unlike the bigger
companies, they are still beneficial in the economy of the countries in Southeast East.
