Introductory Message
For the Facilitator:
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration
their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist
the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
ii
For the Learner:
The hand is one of the most symbolized parts of the human body. It is often used to
depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create and
accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a
learner is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant
competencies and skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in
your own hands!
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities
for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be
enabled to process the contents of the learning resource while being an active
learner.
What I Need to Know This will give you an idea of the skills or
competencies you are expected to learn in
the module.
iii
what you learned from the lesson.
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of
the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer What I Know before moving on to the other activities
included in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your
answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not
hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are
not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning
and gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!
iv
What I Need to Know
Good Day! How are you today? I hope you are doing fine. Can you recall your
knowledge on the schematic diagrams of one bulb controlled by single pole switch
using direct current or alternating current source? What about the different types
of circuit? Can you differentiate series circuit from parallel circuit?
ALRIGHT!! Since you are already knowledgeable of your past lessons, we will
proceed to our next module.

What I Know
Pre-Test:
Directions: A. Match the drawing in column A with the correct diagram of one
lamp controlled by a single pole switch in column B. Write your answer in your
activity notebook.
COLUMN A COLUMN B

Installing Electrical
Lesson Wiring System Using
1Circuit with One Lamp
Controlled by Surface or
Flush Type Single Pole
Switch
Welcome to Module 1! This module will provide you the knowledge on how to
install electrical wiring system using circuit with one lamp controlled by surface or
flush type single pole switch.
What’s In
Before proceeding to our lesson, first let us be familiar with the tools used in
installing wiring system using one lamp controlled by surface or flush type single
pole switch by answering the next activity.
4
_________________10. This is used for gripping, holding, and cutting electrical
wires and cables and even small nails. It is usually used by
linemen in doing heavy tasks.
Congratulations! You got it. Proceed to the next activity. Good luck!
What’s New
Go, go, go for the gold! The topic in this module invites you to uncover a pot of gold
of knowledge and thrive your skills a little deeper and further.

What is It
A wall switch used to control ceiling light fixture or other fixture comes in
three types. Most common is the single-pole switch, the type used to control a light
fixture from a single location.
Definition of Terms:
Wiring diagram is a fundamental conventional graphic illustration of an
electrical circuit. It shows the simplified shapes of power, lighting, and signal
connection between the devices.
Pictorial diagram is a type of electrical print that shows external
appearance of each component in a circuit. It is much like a photograph of a wiring
installation. It shows more detailed physical appearance of a circuit or wiring
installation.
Let us refresh our minds on the schematic diagram of one lamp controlled
by surface or flush type pole switch using direct and alternating current.

In a series circuit, all components are connected end-to-end, forming a
single path for current flow.
In a parallel circuit, all components are connected across each other,
forming exactly two sets of electrically common points.
This series and parallel circuit are closely related with our lessons to install
surface through one lamp controlled by surface or flush type single pole switch.

from single location, shown below.

Procedure:
This is just like a series circuit i.e. all the components are connected in
series. Just connect the Neutral wire directly to the light bulb and then connect the
light bulb to the switch through middle wire. And then connect the live wire to the
switch as shown in the figure below. The figure shows the basic connection of light
switch and their position i.e. when the switch is OFF, the circuit acts like an open
circuit and the bulb will not glow. To switch on the bulb, switch S1 must be closed
to complete the circuit and glow the light bulb.

Warning:
• Disconnect the power source before servicing, repairing, or installing electrical
equipment.
• Never try to work on electricity without proper guidance and care.
• Work with electricity only with the presence of those persons who have good
knowledge and practical work experience who know how to deal with
electricity.
• Read all instructions and cautions and follow them strictly.
• Contact a licensed electrician or the power supply company before practicing
any change in electrical wiring connection.
• Electricity is life but mishandling it results to high risk.

What I Have Learned
Hello! Are you still there? After performing the different activities, let us
summarize what you have learned.
Directions: Connect the dots to its proper connections of one lamp controlled by
surface or flush type single pole switch. Write your answer in your activity
notebook.
If possible, use two colors of lines, one maybe blue and the other is red.
