Extraction and Identification of Oleoresin From Siling Labuyo

Siling labuyo (hot chili pepper) was extracted using a reflux method with ethyl alcohol over 30-35 minutes to 1 hour. The solution was filtered and evaporated, leaving a reddish-orange residue of oleoresin. The oleoresin contains capsaicin and other compounds that give siling labuyo its pungency, aroma, and solubility in alcohol and ether. It has uses as an irritant, digestive aid, and seasoning.
