As the name suggests it's a 'retelling' of the Mahabharata, it's neither a rendition nor an authentic version. Author
Devdutt Pattanaik has done a shocking task of impeding this epic to 300 odd pages and propelling the connotation of
nearly everything within the tale.
Ig most of you may think that we already know what transpired in Mahabharata then why should I flip through it?
And this is often where this book renders the excellence, we all have listened to those tales but did we concoct
something out of these tales? This novel is sort of a bridge between what we beget heard or comprehended and what
it existed. Mr Pattn
*My actual conclusion after flipping through the full book*
Jaya, An illustrated retelling of the Mahabharata is jotted down forthrightly by the novelist. In fact, within some
hundred pages, the novelist unfolded the ambivalence of the world's vastest epic, The Mahabharata.
So, let's begin with some fundamental qualms
What is Mahabharata? Who was the author of this epic? Why did he label his novel as Jaya, not Vijaya? Who were
the Pandavas? Who were the Kauravas? And what we will understand from this great epic?
Mahabharata is that the world's vastest epic, in its existing configuration, it encompasses eighteen chapters and
thousands of verses. It confides us about the story of the Pandavas, the Kauravas, and therefore the additional
significant rulers who existed and once ruled the big land referred to as the Bharata Varsha.
The writer of this great epic was Krishna Dwaipayana aka Veda Vyasa.
Veda Vyasa titled his tale 'Jaya' because there are two aspects of conquests. One is Vijaya, the paraphernalia wins,
the opposite is Jaya, the conscientious win. within the obsolete, there's a loser. And within the latter, there aren't any
losers. That's why he titled his creation as Jaya, also comprehended because the Mahabharata.
The Pandavas were the son of Pandu, Kunti and madri. The name of the five Pandavas are as follows Yudhishtira,
Bhima, Arjun, Nakul and Sahadev.
The Pandavas were bred by using the traditional Indian concept of 'Niyog'.
The sons of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari were called the Kauravas. They amassed a total of 100 sons and one
daughter called Dusshala.
We can understand many things from the Mahabharata.
The latter is additionally referred to as the entire epic.
In this epic, Veda Vyasa underwrote all the four facets of mortal existence, Dharma (social conduct), Artha
(economic activities), Kama (Pleasurable pursuits) and moksha (spiritual activities).
And by encompassing of these facets of life, Veda Vyasa told us about all the prevailing hindrances and in addition
as how we will conquer those restraints which prevent us from being competent to accomplish our full aptitude.
Before glancing at this book, i'd recommend you to browse, The Ramayana and afterwards read The Mahabharata.
I will end with these lines:
Jaya and Vijaya are the twins and also the doorkeepers of Vaikuntha, the dwelling of God. The connotation of their
term is 'victory'. Find the antagonism between Jaya and Vijaya, and you'll uncover the ambivalence of the world's
greatest epic, The Mahabharata
