    Present Simple Present Continuous

    Things which are always true: Things which are happening at the moment of
    • Water boils at 100 degrees. speaking:
    • The human body contains 206 bones.
    • The water is boiling now.
    • I am leaving work right now.

    Future events which are part of a timetable: Future plans or arrangements:


    • The train leaves at 19.45 this evening.
    • I am meeting Maria after class today.
    • We fly to Berlin next week.
    • What are you doing next week?

    To talk about the future after certain words


    ('when' 'until' 'after' 'before' 'as soon as'):
    • I'll talk to John when I see him.
    • I'll call you when I get home.

    Permanent situations (or nearly permanent; true Temporary situations:


    for a few years at least):
    • Ben is living in Berlin for a few months
    • Ben lives in Berlin. (usually he lives in Hamburg).
    • Maria studies at this university • Maria is studying for a few months at this
    university.

    • Actions which are changing/growing/developing:
