Design of Base Raft

Length of Slab = 5 m

Width of slab = 5 m

Length of chamber = 4 m

Width of chamber = 4 m

Height of wall = 3.7 m

Height of soil = 1.7 m

Assume base slab thickness = 0.3 m

Assume base slab projection = 0.3 m

Calculation of dead load:

self wt. of walls = 248.8 kN

self wt. of Base raft = 5 x 5 x 0.3 x 25= 187.5 kN

Total dead load acting on the base raft = 436.3 kN

Weight of sewage:

weight of sewage 565.60 kN

Calculation of soil load:

Wt. of Soil over base slab projection =

(18.8x 1.7x0.3x18 )= 172.58 kN

DL+sewage= 436.3+565.6= 1001.9 kN

DL+Soil + Sewage = 436.3+172.58+565.6= 1174.5 kN

Total load = 1174.5 KN

Area of base slab = 5 x 5= 25 m2

Base pressure = 1174.48/25= 46.980 KN/m2

Gross Safe Bearing Capacity of soil = 163.53 kN/m2

SBC > Base pressure OK

Net upward pressure on base slab (436.3+172.58)/25 - 25 x 0.3 16.86 kN/m2
