Early Childhood Studies: CLD 161 Field Education Learning Plan

Name: Sharukhan Janarthanan Student number:

Date: May 25, 2022 Plan number: 3
Age group: Preschool Title of activity: Footprint Frenzy (Art)

Observation
1) What do the children already know AND what do they want to know more about?

Observation:
Child A was fascinated by how our footsteps appeared in the sand during our outdoor playtime. "Wow, your footprint is bigger than mine," said
Child A. Soon later, while exploring the yard, Child A and B discovered the footprints of a bird and a squirrel, and said, "Look Sharu, the
squirrel and bird’s foot is smaller than mine."

Interpretation:
The footprint impressions of various animals and humans appear to spark the children's interest. They appear astonished as to why everyone's
footprint has different sizes. As a result, having the children examine different animals and stamp their footprints with paint onto the
paper allows them to learn about the many prints and details that each animal has.

2) How will your activity build on the children’s interests?

My activity will focus on the children's curiosity about animal footprint impressions and allow them to experience the various details and traits
that each animal possesses. The children will begin by investigating the many animals on display and will be able to stamp the impression onto
paper to inspect it more closely.

Planning
3) Briefly describe the intentional experience that you will plan to support children’s learning of the inquiry they are
exploring and investigating.

Footprint Frenzy
2

Footprint Frenzy is a sensory/art experience in which children learn about many animals that may be found all over the world and in our unique
environments. The children can investigate the various animals on display, each of which has its own colour and paint linked with it, allowing
them to observe each animal in greater depth. This experience will allow the children to explore their interests in the various species that make
up our environment.

4) Experience Planning Outline

Describe the opening, middle and closing of the experience.

5) Describe your role in supporting children's engagement with this experience.

My role in the learning activity will be to actively participate alongside the children in order to increase engagement when imparting knowledge
about various animal footprints while creating the artifact. I hope that this project encourages children to consider how exotic and distinct all
animals are when it comes to how they express themselves. I would also provide follow-up questions and open dialogues to encourage the
students to cooperate and understand different parts of the activity that they may not have considered before.
