When it comes to preparing my final logos to my clients, I like to send a robust package that
includes every file format under the sun that you might need.

But which formats do you need, when do you use them and why? For someone that doesn’t work
with these formats everyday like I do, it can be like reading a different language when looking at
the variety of file names.

This is why I’ve created my Logo File Type Cheat Sheet. Let’s keep things simple so you can get
onto what’s really importanat—like running your business.

PRINT VS DIGITAL
Let’s start here since it’s likely the first questions you will need to answer before you open the
folders. Below is a list of file formats that work best for each application.

The reason there are different files for print vs digital is each use a different set of colour formats
and have different levels of resolution requirements.

PRINT: set in CMYK with a minimum DIGITAL: set in RGB and have a minimum
print resolution of 300 DPI screen resolution of 72 to 150 DPI

WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?


So now you have all of these files and all of these formats, but how do you know when and where
to use them? Depending on WHO you are will determine what formats will be best for you.

• Branded materials and internal documents like memos, letterheads, and powerpoints.
