1. Discuss the difference between peer competition and positive interdependence in a group.
Simply said, aren’t there debates in groupwork? Give examples.
Peer competition is a gathering made from individual wherein every learner contends
with each other. While on the other hand positive association is a component of helpful
and cooperative realizing where individuals from a group see that cooperating is
separately and altogether gainful, and achievement relies upon the investment of the
relative multitude of individuals. They should protect their individual learning or rule, so
they go through banter or debate with their group or rival.
2. What can be done in case some members of a group do not show positive interpersonal and
communication skills? Can teacher help this situation? How?
Teacher has one of the biggest roles to encourage and influence the learners in order to
enhance their skills and relationship with the other students. Inside the classroom if
some members of a group do not show positive interpersonal and communication a
teacher should be able to give values and educate learners. Also, a teacher must be
patience and have the commitment to influence the learners to be active inside the
class on how to communicate as well as cooperate with their groups.
As I see it, skills in listening, negotiating, compromising, punctuality, and tolerance are
part of social skills that are essential in group work. To have an effective learning
students must learn how to cooperate and listen to what the others will say,
collaboration is the key. These skills will help learners to trust their group members as
well as have encouragement to trust themselves also rather than being dependent to
other members. Additionally, learners will probably gain self-confidence or self-esteem
since they will also fulfill self-development at the end of the task.
4. How can group members ensure that each member of the group is also accountable for the
group work, and not totally dependent on others?
Group members can ensure that each member of the group is responsible for the group
work by giving their group members the chance to speak for themselves or share their
insights as well as ideas. Aside from that, giving each group members tasks to clearly see
how responsible they would be in completing their task in no time. Lastly, a teacher can
always use strategies or methods to facilitate learners in order to ensure that each of
the group member are being responsible.
5. In practical terms, how can the teacher grade individual fairly in a group activity for one single
output? Give example.
In order for the teacher to give grade individual fairly in a group activity for one single
out, a teacher can use assessment tools. For instance, if a teacher gives each groups an
activity for one single output performance assessment tools can be used to see for each
group will response or show their skills. Then during or after the performance the
teacher will be the one who will give the feedback if there is improvement that the
group or each member must attain.
6. While cooperative learning is a very good avenue for teachers to help students learn effectively,
why is it not to be adopted in all classrooms learning situation?
It is not to be adopted in all classrooms learning situation for the reason that it is not
necessarily needed since there are also individual activities, homework, and sit works
that can help learners learn effectively. Also, learners can have individual learning which
they can share their ideas and attitudes that can enhance and improve their learning.
