Lauren Brown
Human Resources Director
US Environmental Protection Agency
Cincinnati, Ohio 45268
I am writing to request consideration for the Environmental Engineer position at the Environmental Protection Agency
posted on the website Glassdoor. I believe that my experience in site sample analysis, research in enzymatic in-situ textile
water treatment at the University of Guadalajara, and ground water arsenic monitoring at Texas Tech, as well as the
knowledge gained in my degree programs well fit the required and preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities for the
position.
The job listing for the Environmental Engineering position requires knowledge of advanced Environmental Engineering,
the ability to interpret and summarize scientific results as well as prepare reports, and the ability to develop and employ
novel approaches to address environmental remediation. In all these criteria, I have thorough firsthand experience. I have
two years of research experience working in TTU’s Edward E. Whitacre, Jr. College of Engineering. As the only
Environmental Engineering bachelor’s student in my laboratory group, I routinely carried out PhD level work as I was
responsible for my own researcher project. During this experience I had the task of coordinating directly with my primary
researcher on experimental design as well as several lab management generalities. Also having attended several Doctorate
dissertations in my stay at TTU, I have a very diverse understanding of the latest research and most refined in the field
techniques, spanning across the field of engineering including Chemical, Construction, Industrial, as well as
Environmental. The experience I have gained as an Academic Research and the knowledge I gained at Texas Tech
University during my Master of Science in Environmental Engineering program includes environmental chemistry,
advanced biological water treatment, and coordinating with PhD researchers from all around the world within my lab
group. My duties also included reading the most up to date academic publications for summary, and then presentation to
several researchers, with the intention to inform them on the most up to date and refined techniques. These are all skills
that fit well with the description of the Environmental Engineering position.
In addition to advanced knowledge in Environmental Engineering, the Environmental Engineering position also requires
scientific literacy with the ability communicate research to several groups of interest including none engineering scientist
both domestically and internationally. I am in a unique position to accomplish this task because of the vast experience I
have in chemistry and biochemistry, having obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry alongside my Bachelor of
Science in Environmental Engineering. My unique cross-training as a Biochemist has also allowed me to participate in
research directly related to bioremediation that a standard Environmental Engineers would otherwise have no
understanding of. In addition to this research being interdisciplinary, it was also hosted in Mexico at University of
Guadalajara, with researchers whose primary language was Spanish. I am confident that my experience at UdeG,
researching novel enzymatic immobilization and textile dye degradation for water treatment, as well as my ability to
communicate effectively in Spanish between Environmental Engineers and Biochemist would be an asset as an
Environmental Engineer at the Environmental Protection agency.
The resume attached includes more details on my research experience and education. I am very euthanasic about this
position and as I am currently located in Dallas, I would be more than happy to relocate to Las Vegas for this position. I
am looking forward to meeting with you online at your earliest convenience to further discuss my qualifications for the
Environmental Engineering position at the Environmental protection agency. Please call me anytime at (817) 929-8301 or
email me at montanamontez13@gmail.com to arrange for a convenient meeting time.
Sincerely,
Montana Montez, MS
