Descriptive text is a text that described about what a
person and an animal is like.

2. Social Function:
a. To give information about a particular entity by

a. Identification or general statements.
b. Description.

4. Language Features:
a. Focus on specific participants as the main
character.

Learning Activity 2: (Descriptive Text 2: Things and


Places)

1. Definition
Descriptive Text is a text that described about what a
things or a place is like.
2. Social Function
a. To give information about a particular entity by
describiing its features, history, and special
characteristics.
b. To give information about things by describing
physical attributes, behaviors, uses.

3. Generic Structures
a. Identification: introduces and identifies specific
objects (thing and place) intended
to be described.
b. Description: describe the intended objects using
descriptive details or information
about the objects’s characteristics,
appearances, personality, habits, or
qualities.

4. Language Features
 Specific Participant: It has a certain object, is not
common and unique (only one)
 The use of the adjective to clarify the noun
 The use of simple present: the sentence pattern used
is simple present because it tells the fact of the object
described.
 Action verb: verbs that show an activity
 Using passive voice
 Using noun phrase
 Using technical term
 Using general and abstract noun
 Using conjunction of time and cause-effect
Learning Activity 3: (Report Text 1)

1. Definition
Report text is a text which presents information about
something, as it is.

2. Social Function
a. Classifying report: to organise and describe a field or
topic into a class and subclass hierarchy.
b. Compositional report: to organise and describe a
field or topic according to its part (a part or whole
part)

3. Generic Structure:
 Titles.
 General statement / classification: stating
classification of general aspect of thing, animal, public
place, plant which will be discussed in general.
 Description: tells what the phenomenon under
discussion; in terms of parts, qualities, habits or
behaviors.
4. Language Features:
 Using general noun
 Using Simple present tense
 Using verb

Learning Activity 4: (Report Text 2: Comparative and


Historical Report)

1. Definition
Comparative report is a similiarities and differencies
between two or more classes or things.

Historical report is an imformation about the way


things were in relation to a particular historical period.

2. Social Function
 Comparative report: to identify the similarities and
differences between two or more things.
 Historical report: to give information about the way
things were in relation to a particular historical
period or site.

3. Generic Structure
a. Comparative reports
• General statement: it introduces entities to be
compared.
• Description: it contains the systematics analysis of
similarities and differnces.

b. Historical report
• General statement: it identifies historical period or
site and it defines and locates in time and place.
• Description: features or characteristics, activities,
behaviours, artefacts, historical significance.
4. Language Features
a. Generalised participants are initially represented in
simple noun groups.
b. Relating verbs that link an entity with its attributes.
c. Timeless present tense (with the exception of an
historical report)
d. Attitudinal vocabulary is unusual as the emphasis is
on facts rather on opinions.
