Sounds ordinary, but the writing was anything but. It was smart, funny and had that sparky
language that I look for in a writer. So I commissioned her to write a work which became her
first play, Crumbs from the Table of Joy.
I may have opened a door for Lynn, but her great success as a writer, and two time Pulitzer
Prize winner, is entirely her own. And now I have the privilege of producing her newest play,
Clyde’s, on Broadway for a much wider audience.
The group of incredibly talented artists who are part of this production, from Lynn’s long
time collaborator Kate Whoriskey to a first time member like Takeshi Kata, have come
together after 18 months of silence to start a conversation with the audience.
It is with great joy that we re-open the Hayes, that we contribute to the process of healing,
that we continue to be a Broadway theater exclusively dedicated to the voices of living
American writers.

one are the days when radio artists looked to Broadway for the next chart-topping hit song,
but sometimes pop writers still go in the opposite direction, writing original scores for stage
musicals. Though we all love jukebox musicals like Beautiful and Tina that use an artist’s
song catalog to tell an original story or the biography of the artist themselves, we’re taking a look
at 5 times popular musicians wrote completely original scores as dramatic works for the stage.
