Watch and sing along to the song
“Books of the Bible Song”

Guide questions:
1. Did you like the song?
2. What books of the Bible were mentioned in the song?
3. How many books were mentioned in the song?
4. Have you tried reading one of these books?
5. What is a Bible? (recall from the previous lesson)
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.

Guide Questions:
1. What does the word of God do to you?
2. Do you listen to the word of God during Holy Mass?
3. Why is it important to listen and practice the teachings of the word of God?

God wrote the Bible using human authors. In some cases, the author is not known.

The Bible is the Word of God. It contains the 2 main divisions, the Old and the
New Testament. The word “testament” means “covenant or contract”.

Old Testament is the first part of the Bible that tells the story of the Jewish
people. It consists of 46 smaller books. The Jewish people is another name for the
Children of Israel.

The first five books in the Old Testament, namely, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus,
Numbers and Deuteronomy, are also called books of the Law.
OLD TESTAMENT
Genesis Nehemiah Lamentations
Exodus Tobit Baruch
Leviticus Judith Ezekiel
Numbers Esther Daniel
Deuteronomy 1 Maccabees Hosea
Joshua 2 Maccabees Joel
Judges Job Amos
Ruth Psalms Obadiah
1 Samuel Proverbs Johan
2 Samuel Ecclesiastes Micah
1 Kings Song of Solomon Nahum
2 Kings Wisdom Habakkuk
1 Chronicles Sirach Zephaniah
2 Chronicles Isiah Haggai
Ezra Jeremiah Zechariah
Malachi

The Catholic Bible has 7 additional books in the Old Testament that other Bibles
do not have. These are the books of Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, 1
Maccabees, and 2 Maccabees.

New Testament is the second division of the Bible that tells the story of the life
and teachings of Jesus and the first Christians (the Apostles). It consists of 27
smaller books.
NEW TESTAMENT
Matthew Philippians 1 Peter
Mark Colossians 2 Peter
Luke 1 Thessalonians 1 John
John 2 Thessalonians 2 John
Acts 1 Timothy 3 John
Romans 2 Timothy Jude
1 Corinthians Titus Revelation
2 Corinthians Philemon
Galatians Hebrews
Ephesians James

Maybe you look at the Bible as just an old book that only adults read. But
did you know that the Bible is for you, too? It is and here’s why.
God gave us the Bible as our guide for life. Think about your lego sets. In
order to build the structure correctly, you have to follow all the steps in the
instructions, right? Otherwise you might end up with something different than the
picture on the box. That’s how it works with us, too. God created us so he knows
how we should be put together and how we should work. So, the Bible tells us
what to do.
The most important thing the Bible teaches us is how we can be saved. The
Bible also tells us how we are supposed to act. God created us to be obedient, kind,
forgiving and to always tell the truth. And, it warns us about danger and the things
we shouldn’t do, like lie or steal. The Bible is our guide for life so let’s read it and
obey it!

D. thank God who loves us first.

Synchronous
Activity #1: Bible Verse
A time will be allotted for the pupils to present their performance task.

Activity #2: Three Pics and One Word

Review the set of pictures that will be flashed on the screen. Each set of three
photos has something in common. Guess the theme. Below the pictures, you will
see boxes indicating how many letters are there in the answer. Choose the letters of
your answer from the scrambled letters below.

V S T L A O H E

F E R L I B N D
A Y M O F L C I

Guide Questions:
1. How did the set of pictures give you an idea about the mystery words?
2. Is the act of expressing love only limited to your family?
3. Whom do you consider your friend or neighbor?

Upon solving the mystery words, we are given the idea of loving our friends or
neighbors. Let us read the Bible story when Jesus told His disciples about the
greatest commandment.

The Greatest Commandment

(Matthew 22:35-40)

One day, one of the scholars of the law tested Jesus by asking, “Teacher,
which commandment of the law is the greatest?”
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and the first
commandment. The second is like this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
The whole law and the teachings of the prophets depend on these commandments.”

Activity #3: Scripture and Life

A. Using your red crayon, color the heart of the two greatest
commandments.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart.
You shall share your toys to your friends.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

B. Fill in the blanks to complete each sentence. Choose from the words given in
the parentheses.

You must __________________ _____________________

_____________ have ________________ _____________.

( one , I , you , another , loved )

Through Moses, God gave the

Jewish people the Ten Commandments.
The first three commandments are about loving God. The fourth to tenth
commandments are about loving our neighbor as ourselves.
Jesus summed up the ten commandments into two great commandments –
love God and love your neighbor.

Activity #4: I Understand

Analyze the following situations. Check (ü) the box if the action is an expression
of loving your neighbor. Cross out (û) if the action does not show love of
neighbor. Write on the space why the action is an expression of love of neighbor or
why it is not.

Second Quarter – Week 4
Topic: Jesus as Our Friend

At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:

A. demonstrate understanding that Jesus invited each of us to be His friend;
B. show loyalty to friends even in times of difficulty; and
C. praise God for the gift of friendship and pray for one’s friends.

Synchronous
Activity 1: Love the Lord
Watch and follow the dance to the song “Love the Lord”

Activity 2: My Favorite Friend

In your N4, draw a picture of your favorite friend. Write something about him or
her. You may share your work in class once you are done.

Guide Questions:
1. What do you like most about your friend?
2. How do you know when someone is a good friend?
3. How do friends treat each other?
4. What do friends do together?

Aside from your friends that you have shared, there is also a very special person
who also wants to be your friend. Do you want to know Him?
“Jesus Visits the House of Zacchaeus”
(Luke 19:2-6)

There was a rich tax collector named Zacchaeus. Nobody wanted to be his
friend because some said that he had stolen some of the people’s money.

He heard that Jesus was coming to his town. But Zacchaeus was too short to
see over the crowd of people who had gathered to see Jesus. So he climbed a tree.

When Jesus passed, he saw Zacchaeus up the tree. “Come down, Zacchaeus.
I want to go over your house,” said Jesus. Zacchaeus hurried down and welcomed
him joyfully.

Guide Questions:
1. Who was the rich tax collector who wanted to see Jesus?
2. What did he do to see Jesus?
3. What did Jesus do when he saw the tax collector?

The Bible story tells how God changed Zacchaeus. Before Zacchaeus became a
friend of Jesus, he took money from the people. When Zacchaeus became a friend
of Jesus, he gave the money back. He said, “I will give back even more than I
took.” It was God who changed Zacchaeus.

Activity 3: How is it like to have a friend in Jesus?

Listen and watch as the video is played.
“Jesus as a friend accoording to the Bible”
Jesus is not someone we can see with our eyes, but when we believe in Him,
He can be our best friend. He is a friend that we can talk to about everything. We
don’t have to pray in a special way or in a special place so that He will hear us. He
is with us when we’re with friends, at school, at home – everywhere!

Jesus is our model of a true friend. He was loving, kind, understanding, and
caring. He was a friend to the sick, to the poor, to the suffering, and even to the
sinners. He accepted and loved everyone equally.

Jesus loves us so much. He invites each of us to be his friend. We can be a

friend of Jesus by loving others as He loves us.

Activity 4:
Are you a good friend? Answer the questions as honestly as you can. Using your
red crayon, color the heart to show your answer.

1. Do you say nice things about your friend?

Always Sometimes Never

2. Do you cheer up your friend when they are sad?

3. Do you share what you have with your friend?

Second Quarter – Week 5
Topic: We Make the Right Choices
Special Lesson - Saints

At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:

A. demonstrate understanding that making the wrong choices can hurt God and
others;
B. choose to do good always; and
C. desire to be like saints and ask for their prayers to become holy like them.

Activity 2: Story - Pinocchio

Listen and watch the story of a young boy
named Pinocchio.

Guide Questions:
1. What kind of boy was Pinocchio?
2. What did Pinocchio decide to do one day?
3. What should he do to become a real boy?
4. If you were Pinocchio, would you have done the same? Why?

Pinocchio made a choice that involved not only what he liked but what was
good for himself and for his loved ones. Jesus asked the people he met to make the
same choice.

“Jesus and the Rich Young Man”

(Mark 10:17-22)

One day, a rich young man asked Jesus, “What must I do to be happy with
God forever?”

Jesus told him to obey the commandments. The rich man answered that ever
since he was young he had obeyed all the commandments.

Jesus wanted the man to become one of his friends so he told him, “Sell all
you have. Give the money to the poor. Then come follow me.”

When the man heard this, he went away very sad.

Guide Questions:
1. Did Jesus ask the rich man to choose between his friendship and money?
2. Did the rich man find the choice too hard?
3. Did he decide to keep what he had?
4. Was he happy with his decision?
God allows us to make our own choices. We can choose to follow him and
be good children of God. Or we can choose to disobey him and be unhappy.
It is not always easy to follow God. There will be hard times. But God
himself will be there to help us be obedient to him always.

Activity 3: Picture Analysis

Show pictures of different Filipino heroes.

Guide Questions:
1. Who are in the pictures and what do you know about them?
2. What have they done for our country and people?

People are known to be great when they have done something extra ordinary
for the people and their country. They are called heroes. They are in history and
honored by the people with pride and respect. I know two persons who also did the
same not for our country but for our faith in God. Who do you think these two
great persons are? Do you know them?

Activity 4: Filipino Saints

Listen and watch the story of “Life of St. Lorenzo Ruiz
and St. Pedro Calungsod.”

Answer the following questions:

1. Where were St. Lorenzo Ruiz and St. Pedro Calungsod born?
2. How did they become saints?
3. How did they show their love for God?
4. Do you want to follow their footsteps? Why?
5. What should you do to become saints like them?

If people of land have great men and women to be honored as heroes, the
Church, the people of God have also great men and women to honor. They are
called saints. Saints are holy people who offered their lives for the love of God and
neighbors. They lived ordinary lives in an extraordinary way. Our people take
pride to have two saints – Lorenzo Ruiz and Pedro Calungsod.
St. Lorenzo Ruiz St. Pedro Calungsod

They are ordinary people, simple, and humble. Lorenzo was a good father, a
good husband, and a good Christian. Pedro was a catechist, a good companion, and
a sacristan. They are generous to give their all to God. Their love for God and
Mother Mary are their strength in facing death.

God does not expect us to be martyr like them. We can be saints if we do the
will of God and accept our little sufferings with generosity and patience every day.

Saints deserve to be honored as heroes of God. We make novenas to them

and ask for their help.

Masses were celebrated in their honor during their feast days every
September 28, for St. Lorenzo Ruiz and April 2, for St. Pedro Calungsod. We
hold procession to proclaim them as our beloved martyrs. We thank the Lord for
giving us saints like them.

One day, John the Baptist came to the desert. He was like a messenger from
God. He preached, baptized, and taught people. He told the people, “Prepare a road
for the Lord; make a straight path for him to travel”

John urged the people to change their ways. Be sorry for your sins. Stop
cheating. Instead, show mercy to people in need.

Guide Questions:
1. Who was the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth?
2. What did John ask the people to prepare?
3. Who is the Son of God, our Savior?
4. How should we wait for the coming of Jesus?
John the Baptist is the cousin of Jesus. He prepared the way for Jesus. He
taught the people to prepare themselves for His coming.

ADVENT means “coming”. It is the time to prepare our hearts and

ourselves for the coming of Jesus. The first coming of Jesus happened already
thousand years ago - on Christmas Eve, but the second coming of Christ is still
unknown to us. It reminds us to be alert and watchful for the coming of the Lord.
Nobody knows when He will come.

Advent begins four weeks before Christmas. During this season we prepare
ourselves to receive Jesus in our hearts. We do this by being good and doing good,
and by changing our lives for the better. We pray and repent (feel sorry) for our
sins. We show love and respect for God and other people.

This is an Advent wreath, this is the symbol of Advent season, with a candle
lit each of the four Sundays leading up to, and on Christmas.

The meaning of symbols in the Advent wreath:

1. Evergreen or color green – signifies hope and life for the coming of the
Lord.
2. Circular shape – God has no beginning and no end. His love for us is never
ending.
3. White candle – means Jesus, the light of the world.
4. First purple candle – brings us HOPE. It reminds us to have a joyful hope
for the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.
5. Second purple candle – brings us LOVE. It reminds us that God is love
and all who dwell in love will live.
6. Third pink candle – brings us JOY. It reminds us of joy of having Jesus.
This Sunday is called “Gaudete” which means joy.
7. Fourth purple candle – brings us PEACE. It reminds us that whatever may
happen, the peace of God will reign on Earth because of His love for us.

Remember:
1. During the Advent season, we prepare for ourselves for the birthday of
Jesus.
2. It is a season of longing – not for the gifts under the Christmas tree, but for
the ultimate gift – Christ.
Activity 2: A Special Gift
At Christmas, we share the joy of Christ’s coming with other people. One
way of doing this is by giving gifts. We give gifts to our loved ones. A gift given
wholeheartedly is a sign of love.

Christmas is the season of giving. We share our joy at Christ’s coming with
others. One way of doing this is to give gifts to people as a sign of our love for
them.

We give Jesus the best of all gifts for His birthday – the gift of our love. We
show love and concern for other people not only at Christmas but throughout the
year.

Draw a gift you want to gift to Jesus for the coming Christmas inside the frame.
Then, write a short birthday message/prayer for Him.
