Programme on Financial Inclusion at BIRD, Lucknow

(12 to 14 February 2020)

Objectives of the Programme
At the end of the programme, the participants will be able to –
 Explain the importance of Financial Inclusion
 List out the efforts and strategy for achieving Financial Inclusion
 Explain role and responsibility of banks, Business Correspondents(BC)/Business Facilitators(BF) and
Technology Providers
 Describe the features of Financial Literacy and Credit Counselling Scheme
 Explain in detail the assistance available from NABARD for financial inclusion.
Contents of the Programme
 Concept and importance of financial inclusion, plan and strategy
 Components of financial inclusion
 Use of BC/BF and ICT
 Micro-insurance for the poor
 Remittance for the poor
 Financial literacy schemes
 SHG as a vehicle of financial inclusion
Methodology
The programme will be highly participatory with inputs by facilitators in the form of lectures, classroom
discussions, experience sharing, case exercises and field visits
Participants
Branch Managers, Credit Officers and Officers handling Financial Inclusion Cells of Commercial banks, RRBs
and Cooperative Banks, and Senior personnel of NGOs and MFIs actively involved in financial inclusion
projects.
Duration
The programme duration is of 3 days. The Programme shall commence at 0930 hrs. on 12 February 2020 and
conclude by 17.30 hrs. on 14 February 2020.
Venue
Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Sector - H, LDA Colony, Kanpur Road, Lucknow – 226012, Uttar
Pradesh.
Accommodation
The programme is residential. BIRD provides single room air-conditioned accommodation to participants. The
boarding and lodging facilities for the participants will be available from the afternoon of 11 February 2020
till the forenoon of 15 February 2020. It will not be possible to extend the boarding and lodging facilities to
participant’s spouse and/or guests.
Programme Fee
The normal cost of the programme is Rs.18000/- per participant. However, as the programme is sponsored by
NABARD, no participation fee will be charged. The travel and other incidental expenses will however, be borne
by the concerned nominating organizations.
How to Apply
Enrolment will be made on receipt of the nomination form enclosed. The nomination may be forwarded to us
so as to reach us latest by 03 February 2020. The intake of participants for the programme will be on a “first
come first served basis”. Nominations may be forwarded to us as early as possible.
Medical Facilities to Participants
Although we wish all the participants a very pleasant stay & good health during their visit to BIRD, but we
would like to request you not to depute such officers for training, who are suffering from serious ailments.
Further, in case any participant falls sick during the training and requires specialist attention/ hospitalization,
although medical facilities shall be arranged by BIRD but all the expenses incurred by BIRD in providing medical
care shall have to borne by the organization which has deputed the participant.
About BIRD
Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) is the training institution promoted by National Bank for
Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), the apex Financial Institution in the area of Agriculture and
Rural development in India. BIRD is involved in training, research and consultancy, particularly in the area of
rural development banking. The training activity of the Institute caters to the needs of the Regional Rural
Banks, Commercial Banks, Co-operative Banks and Government/Non-Government Organizations. BIRD has
also handled a series of consultancy projects for Commercial banks, RRBs, Apex Co-operative Banks and
international agencies like World Bank, SAARC Fund, and IFAD, Swiss Agency for Development and Co-
operation (SDC), International Labor Organization (ILO), GIZ etc.
BIRD is located in a sprawling campus at a distance of 7 km from Lucknow Airport and 8 km from the Railway
Station. It has the right ambience for academic pursuits, having all the necessary learning aids including a rich
library and computers. The faculty members have rich field experience in Rural Banking, Planning,
Development and Human Resources Management.
