The document discusses kernel components of the Windows operating system and their roles in process control. It specifically mentions the plug-and-play manager, power manager, and I/O manager as significant components. For each, it provides an example process related to process control. The document also provides details about the author's device, including its operating system, RAM capacity, available RAM, and examples of memory usage by applications and background processes. It notes that applications generally use more memory than background processes. Additionally, it discusses ways to connect the device to other devices using USB, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. “Task Performance 01”
Part 1:
1.) Recall the details about the kernel components of a Windows
operating system (OS). Based on the figure below, select three (3) kernel
components that you think are the most significant in terms of process
control.

A.) Plug-and-play Manager

B.) Power Manager
C.) I/O Manager

2.) Give one (1) sample process that can be executed by each kernel
component you have selected. Explain each sample process relative to its
corresponding process control structure. Perform additional research if
necessary.

 Plug and play or (PnP) - is a combination of hardware and software

approaches that allows the computer to detect when a new device
is plugged into the system. System configuration can be changed
with minimal or no user involvement using PnP.

 Power manager - for all devices allows power state change, it

controls orderly power state change. This is usually done using a
complex device stack that controls other devices.

 I/O manager - is the heart of the I/O system. It connects

applications and system components to virtual, logical, and physical
devices and defines the device driver architecture.
Part 2:
- What is the device's operating system?
- Windows Notebook
- What is the total memory capacity (RAM) of the device?
- 4GB
A.) What is the available or remaining memory capacity (RAM) of the
device?
= 17 MB

B.) Enumerate five (5) running application processes in the device. Select
applications that consume high memory utilization. Indicate the memory
allocation for each process.
- Kali Linux (5,007 MB)
- Microsoft Teams (1,029 MB)
- Brave Browser (563.5 MB)
- Google Chrome (411.8 MB)
- Steam (198.7 MB)

C.) Enumerate five (5) running background processes or system

processes in the device. Select processes that consume high memory
utilization. Indicate the memory allocation for each process.

- Desktop Window Manager – (543.9 MB)

- Dropbox – (164.7 MB)
- Microsoft Word – (99.3 MB)
- Google Chrome - (57.9 MB)
- Task Manager – (22.7 MB)
D.) Which has higher memory utilization in your device, the
background/system processes, or the application processes?
- As you can see in my letter d answer, the application process is using
only one program, but it clearly outperforms the background process in
terms of memory consumption. It is a good idea to know which apps
are consuming the most system memory, as they usually consume a lot
of resources. You are not necessarily doing something wrong. Some
software, such as photo and video editing and games, usually require a
lot of system resources. Requires RAM to operate.

E.) Give three (3) possible ways to connect your device to other devices.
Describe each in one (1) sentence.
- USB cable (supplied with most smartphones) into your computer,
keyboard, or mouse USB port, or into an adaptor if their USB ports
are not compatible.
- Bluetooth to connect some devices to your phone without a cord.
- Wi-Fi does not work ‘device to device’ but instead needs a special
piece of hardware to maintain the Wi-Fi signal.

F.) Does the process of connecting your device to other devices create
new processes? Why or why not?
= Yes, a network is formed when two or more computers are connected
so that they can interact with each other. The Internet of Things or he
IoT refers to billions of physical objects that are connected to the
Internet all over the world today. All of these devices are connected to
the internet, collecting, and exchanging data.
G.) What are the possible effects of ending (force stop) multiple
processes in your device? Elaborate on your answer.
= Most people assume that mobile phone applications are traditionally
closed. H. Removing them from the app switcher will kill them
completely. However, this is not always the case. However, some apps
(such as Music Player and Health Monitor), Instant His Messenger, and
other programs may still run in the background. Even if you close them,
they will continue to update content and send notifications. It keeps
running in the background no matter how many times you stop it.
Closing an app completely (and quickly) closes all foreground and
background processes. Background process associated with this app.

H.) Describe the functionality of your device in the less-privileged

mode.
= The less-privileged mode is frequently known as the consumer mode
due to the fact consumer applications usually could execute on this
mode. When a manner runs in consumer mode, it has confined get
right of entry to the CPU and the memory.
I.) Identify at least two (2) ways on how you can terminate processes in
your device and briefly describe each.
= Killing a process can result in a complete application termination,
computer crash, or loss of unsaved data. Killing the process in Task
Manager will most likely stabilize your computer. However, killing a
process can result in a complete application termination, computer
crash, or loss of unsaved data. If necessary, it is a good idea to save the
data before killing the process. If you think Windows has everything
you need to fix various problems, you can try this solution. The
Command Prompt is extremely useful and one of the most powerful
features of Windows. Therefore, killing unresponsive processes is a
trivial matter for such tools.
