Mechanical & Electrical Energy Management

COURSE SYNOPSIS
• This course introduces the fundamental of mechanical & electrical
energy management
• It focuses on the techniques to conduct mechanical and electrical
energy audits. This course consists of 3 main parts
o Part A is an introduction to the general energy audit
o Part B will cover energy audit on mechanical equipment such as pumps, fans,
blowers, air compressors and air-conditioning systems
o Part C will cover energy audit of electrical systems

1. Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations
2008 under the Electricity Supply Act 1990

➢Any installation with a total electrical energy consumption equal to

or exceeding 3,000,000 kWh over any period not exceeding six
consecutive months

➢Regulation 16 – Requirement to submit accounts and documents

pertaining to efficient electrical energy mangement
2. UTM’s Statement of Energy Policy:
‘Energy efficiency and conservation in UTM will be accomplished through
responsible energy management aimed at gradually minimizing energy wastage
through a structured control and monitoring system at each functional level or
PTJs within UTM. The process and procedure adopted shall enable the
establishment of measurable Targets and Energy Index without compromising
reliability and safety. The energy management system will be motivated by
creative and innovative initiatives.’
