In ENGLISH V

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:

a) Identify the three degrees in comparison of adjectives.


b) Differentiate the degrees of comparison in adjective.
c) Use the degrees of adjectives in making comparisons (positive, comparative,
superlative) by using sentences.

Adjectives-describe a person, things


animals or places(noun or prounoun)

EX.

There are three degrees of comparison

 The positive degree


 The comparative degree
 The superlative degree

An adjective in the positive degree is the


basic word itself, it describe person,
animals, things or a place (noun or
pronoun).

Ex.

The tree is large


The pencil is long

Roy walks fast

An adjective in the comparative degree is


used to compare two person, object or a
places, (noun or pronoun), it is followed by
than.

If the adjective is one or two syllables only


and ends in e, we add-r, but if it ends in
consonant, -er is added.

More and less come before an adjective


with three or more syllables.

Ex.

The first tree is larger than the second tree.

Ruler is longer than a pencil.

An adjective in the superlative degree is


used to compare three or more nouns or
pronouns, we add –est to one or two
syllables adjectives, most or least is placed
before the adjectives with three or more
syllables.

Meterstick is the longest among the three.
