Energy Resources Wind

Wind energy describes the process by which wind is used to generate electricity. Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical power to drive an electric generator. While wind energy is a clean and renewable source that is growing rapidly as a job creator, it also has disadvantages as the electricity production depends on weather conditions and wind turbines can harm wildlife. Some key locations for wind energy include Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, Germany, and Spain.

WIND ENERGY

Valeria Carrillo, Jessie Loke, & Emily Christiansen

Introduction
The first modern wind turbine was built in the 1940's in Vermont, USA.
The largest wind turbine in the world is in Hawaii, USA.

Wind energy describes the process by which the wind is used

to generate mechanical power or electricity. Wind turbines
convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical power.
Wind energy is the kinetic energy of air in motion, also called wind.

How is obtained? Where is obtained?

Wind is harvested through Generally, prevailing winds
wind turbines, which blow east-west rather
generate electricity by than north-south. This
converting the kinetic happens because Earth's
energy of the wind into rotation generates what is
mechanical energy. known as the Coriolis
effect.

Advantages & Disadvantages
Wind energy is one of the most common types of renewable energy i today, and is fastest-growing sources
of electricity.
advantage disadvantage
Wind energy is clean and renewable. Unlike Wind energy is intermittent. generating
coal, natural gas, or oil, generating electricity electricity depends on the weather; thus, it
from wind doesn’t result in greenhouse gas can be difficult to predict how much
emissions electricity a wind turbine will generate
Additionally, wind energy is completely renewable If wind speeds are too low, the turbine’s rotor won’t spin.

Wind energy is a job creator. Currently there Wind energy causes noise and visual

The wind energy sector is the fastest growing in the US. Downsides of wind energy is noise and visual pollution.

Wind energy has low operating costs. Wind Wind turbines have some negative impacts on

to install. However, once up and running, can harm and kill species that fly into them,
operating costs are relatively low like birds and bats.
Wind is free; turbines don’t require much maintenance. Wind turbine’s blades are large & rotate at high speeds.

Conclusion
Conclusion
From our point of view we believe wind energy should continue to be
used; it has been proven that process of wind energy is a lot less
harmfull to the enviornment than fossil fuels energy or radioactive
substances. All of its disadvantages such as its unpredictability and
sound contamination do not out weigh its many benefits including
the fact it is a clean and renewable resource.
