The rear panels of the tabletop and column enclosures contain the following:
* A 9-pin female connector for connection to the load cell or the junction box.
* A 25 pin female connector providing a connection to a parallel printer.
* A 9-pin male connector providing a bi-directional serial data interface (RS232) and remote display
Mains voltage input connector from the external power cord is plugged to the screw connector that is
located inside the indicator. The cover enables the user to replace the fuse, the battery for real-time-clock
chip and the power plug. This openning enables the whole cover of the indicator to be sealed and there
will be no need for opening it for battery or fuse replacement after sealed.
The ART weight indicating instrument contains a single controller printed circuit card, containing the
microprocessor card with built in scale input printed circuit card.
The ART uses a 89C51RD2, 8-bit processor, which executes a program contained in a 64 kByte Flash
ROM. The standard instrument also contains 2kbyte RAM and another 2048 byte of non-volatile memory
to hold user generated software application programs. All instrument calibration and metrological set-up
data is contained in nonvolatile memory. The ART is powered from an internal power supply card
connected to the power mains.
2.2 Function
The ART weight indicating instrument is a microprocessor based electronic weight indicator that requires
the external connection of strain gauge load cells. The weight information appears on the digital display
located on the front panel and may be transmitted to peripheral equipment for recording, processing, or
display. The ART table-top weight indicators are available for operation from mains at 220 VAC 50 or 60
Hz (±10%) or from external adapter with 12-36 VDC.
2.2.1 Power up
On power up the indicator will display the current weight using the previously established zero reference.
On power up the indicator will test all memory functions and cause all visual and audio elements to
illuminate so that a visual and audio verification of their operation can be made.
The indicator displays weight from (–Max -9e) to (Max +9e) (gross weight) within the limits of the
display capacity. When these values are exceeded in either way, the related error message is displayed
and the weight is not shown anymore.
2.2.4 Zero-Setting
Pressing the ZERO key causes a new zero reference to be established and the -CENTER OF ZERO- LED
to be shown in the display screen.
Zero-setting range: 4% of Max. (OIML R76 item 4.5.1)
Zero-setting can only take place when the weight display is not in motion and in gross mode.
2.2.5 Zero-Tracking
The ART weight indicator is not equipped with a user selectable zero-tracking feature.
The ART can be configured to display in any selectable units of weight. The kg, g, t, N, kN, lb, oz sign
can be displayed on the right hand unit display.
A keyboard subtractive tare is provided. When the semi-automatic tare feature has been selected, pressing
the TARE key will enter the currently displayed weight value as the new tare weight value. The weight
display will change to indicate the net weight with NET symbol is lighted. This tare entry cannot take
place if the load receptor is in motion, if a print operation is taking place or if the indicator is displaying
gross or net zero. The tare value is displayed in the operator display.
The tare value can be stored in one of the 9 memories and can be recalled back later.
Pressing the TARE key again can clear the tare value.
When tare is first activated, the display turns into NET mode indicating this mode with the NET led on.
In order to switch between the GROSS and NET, Gross-Net key is pressed.
The ART indicator does not allow the manual entry (preset) of a known tare value but enables storing the
tare value in one of the 9 tare memories enabling the user to recall them later.
When the indicator is in gross mode, no symbol or no annunciator is lit. Once a valid tare weight has been
stored, the weight display will change to indicate the net weight with NET LED is lighted. The display
can be switched from a net weight only display to a simultaneous display of tare weight while pressing
the Gross-Net key . When TARE is active, the operator display will show the tare value.
2.2.10 Printing
A printer may be connected to the parallel data port. Printing will not take place if the load receptor is not
stable, if the weight exceeds Max, during data entry from the keyboard or if the device is INCREASED
RESOLUTION mode.
A self-test routine is initiated by unplugging the power cord then re-plugging it in or by pressing the
stand_by key for 3 seconds. The test routine consists of turning on all display elements to verify that
the display is fully functional and display the version number of the software together with the weighing
capacity of the system, serial number of the indicator.
An auto-incremented identification number is produced by ART indicator during printing. The operator
may disable this number if 0 is entered.
The ART indicator supports real time clock circuitry. The clock is kept with a battery (Cr2032-3V) and
this battery can be replaced without removing the calibration seal or opening the cover of the indicator.
The small opening at the rear (see page 13- Appearance of back cover) enables the operator to change the
battery.
The indicator has a number of general and diagnostic messages, which are described in detail in the
Owner's Manual of ART.
The software revision level is displayed during the power up sequence of the instrument.
The ART weight-indicating instrument is available in a plastic injection desktop enclosure, which is 280
mm wide, 125 mm high, 55 mm deep. The indicator may be placed on a column by means of a column-
support plastic adaptor.
The ART, weight-indicating instrument, is available in single enclosure for the need of the environmental
conditions of where the weighing system will be placed. It is explained in section 2.1.2 and the drawings
are in section 4.
2.5.1 Indicator
The ART, weight-indicating instrument, is secured by means of a calibration jumper placed on the scale
input card. There is a screw that is used to fix this jumper. During calibration and parameter entry
procedures, the sign display shows whether this jumper is locked or not. When this jumper is fixed, the
The sealing of the load cell connector with the indicator is done by means of a lead wire seal.
The load receptor’s enclosure is also sealed by means of a lead wire in order not to be opened for corner
correction or changing of one or more load cells from the system.
The ART weighing instrument is composed of separate modules, which are set out as follows:
