1. INTRODUCTION
Engineering is the professional art of applying science to the optimum conversion of

their sources of nature to benefit man. As a career-oriented applied education, Civil
Engineering Students Internship Program bridges the Engineering is the professional
art of applying science to the optimum conversion of there sources of nature to
benefit man. gap between theory and practice and provides students with practical,
field based, real world experiences during their years of study. Internship provides us
the following opportunities.
a. Apply theoretical knowledge in industrial application.
b. Acquire knowledge of various stages of construction, project management and
team-work.
c. Practice ethical and professional work culture.
d. Provide opportunity for students to work with industrial practitioners.
e. Implement Health Safety Environment practices at workplace.
For these practical & technical skills we have participated in CE- Internship (02nd Dec
2019 to 01st Jan 2020) under “RECTANGLE CIVIL CONSULTANCY” construction firm

2. AIM
The aim of this report is to describe about the practical

experience gained at construction site of G+1 residential
building by us.
3. SITE DETAILS:
GURUDEV NAGAR, SAKKARDARA
Date of Visit: 2 December 2019
Duration: 1 month
Total project cost: 1 cr.

4. STEPS DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF
FOUNDATION.
Site clearance:
Before the excavation for foundation, the site shall be
cleared from all types vegetation, trees and rocks if present etc.
soil surface should be levelled.

CENTRE LINE AND FOUNDATION
Centre line and foundation plan is necessary for the proper
alignment of foundation as well as column. Error during the
excavation for foundation can cause shifting of foundation
from its actual position.

FOOTING
1. FOOTING ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF
FOUNDATION CONSTRUCTION.THE PURPOSE OF
FOOTING IS TO SUPPORT THE FOUNDATION AND
PREVENT SETTLING.
2. FOOTING DISTRIBUTE THE LOAD OF STRUCTURE
OVER THE GROUND

COLUMN
The load from the beam is transferred to the column
and the column transfer the load to foundation and
then over the soil.

STEEL REINFORCEMENT
To provide strength against the developing tension in the

member steel reinforcement is provided.

FOLDED STAIRCASE
1. Instead of conventional staircase here folded staircase
was provided.
2. Folded staircase provide architectural significance.
3.Treads was kept 250mm and riser was 150 mm.
4. More framework is required and cost of construction is
high

SHUTTERING
1. Concrete formworks (shuttering) are required for fresh

concrete constructions such as, slabs, beams, columns,
footings etc.
2. As the concrete gets hardened and gain strength the
shuttering is taken off after few days.

SLAB
1. According to the Dimensions, slab is provided either one

way slab or two way slab.
2. Depending on the need of construction simply

supported,cantilever and continous slab is provided.
3. Before the concreting of slab reinforcemnt is completed

in which main and distribution steel is tied.
4. The thickness of slab was kept 150 mm.

ADVANTAGES OF FLYASH BRICKS
1. Due to high strength, practically no breakage during

transport and use.
2. Due to uniform size of brick, mortar required for joints
and plaster reduces almost 50%.
3. Due to lower water penetration seepage of water through
bricks reduced.
4. These bricks do not require soaking in water for 24 hours
only sprinkling of water before use is enough.

5. PROFESSIONAL AND NEW SKILLS DEVELOPED
At "Rectangle Civil Consultancy, Nagpur” we got a chance to develop new civil related
as well as professional skills related to our field. We got an experience of how to work
as an engineer on actual construction site.
We got the actual on site practical knowledge of what we learn from books in our
class. This will surely help us to make the new working easy. We got a chance to deal
with the construction supplier and negotiate with them. Also we got a chance to deal
with the clients. This increased our professional skills

6. Conclusion
We can conclude that:
> Internship training program is an important course
because it closes the gap between scientific study and
practical study.
>The internship was also good to find out what our
strengths and weaknesses are and also helped to define
what skills and knowledge we have to improve.
In this 30 days internship we have learned about various
on field practices of shuttering, excavation, backfilling,
leveling and also various steps during construction of
building components such as foundation, plinth beam
, column, staircase, slab, etc.

7. RECOMMENDATIONS
The Internship is an excellent opportunity for a prospective engineer to use his/her

technical knowledge. We experienced shortfall of following few provisions:
1. Safety officer should be strictly appointed.

2. Awareness about safety should be spread among local labors.
3. Institute can arrange an interaction with experts where they can share case studies
with the students, followed by ‘Query Solving Session’.
4. Mock Training Slot or Simulation can also help to reduce/remove blockages from
students’ mind
