Background
In this research with the advancement of technology, it is imperative to exalt all the systems into a user-
friendly manner. The Library Management system (LMS) acts as a tool to transform traditional libraries
into digital libraries. In traditional libraries, the students or user has to search for books which are hassle
process and there is no proper maintenance of database about issues. The overall progress of work is
slow and it is impossible to generate a fast report. The librarians have to work allotted for arranging,
sorting books in the book sells. At the same time, they have to check and monitor the lend/borrow book
details with its fine. It is a tedious process to work simultaneously in different sectors. LMS will assist the
librarians to work easily. The LMS supports the librarians to encounter all the issues concurrently. The
users need not stand in a queue for a long period to return/borrow a book from the library. The single
PC contains all the data’s in it. The librarians have to assess the system and provide an entry in it.
Through LMS the librarian can find the book in the bookshelves. The LMS is designed with the basic
features such as librarian can add, view, update, delete books and students' details in it.

Introduction

This research is about designing a library system that will help keep track of books and their
checkouts as well as member’s subscriptions and profile. A library management system is an
example of an information system. An information system, whether it is computerized or not, is a
system that represents objects in a physical system, for example, information resources in a
library collection. With this Information system the researcher will be looking at the existing
problems of a management system and the possible solution that need to be implemented to
obtained a more improved system.

This system gives us the complete information about the library. The researcher can enter the
record of new books and retrieve the details of the books available in the library. Books can be
issued. In this project we can maintain the late fine of students who returns the issued books after
due date.
Library Management system is an application which refers to library systems which are generally
small or medium in size. It is used by librarian to manage the library.

Motivation

Libraries are essential. We want to create a system that is user friendly to staff in order to avoid
error handling.

The motivation to creating this system is to Cater to everyone that wants to have an opportunity
of education.

Libraries hold great depth and significant substance, to education and knowledge. Improved
library creates innovation. The library management system provides mobile access to search the
library catalog, schedules, books and resources from anywhere, at any given time via
smartphones and tablets.

Its cost effective, embracing sophisticated technologies is cost-effective and a viable choice for
education institutions. Using cloud, mobile and digital libraries eliminates paper-based processes
and maintenance overheads, improves productivity, reduces operation costs and saves time.
(Wilson)
Problem Statement
In previous system there was time wasting because of providing the insufficient features to
students like only one book per students. Sometimes user might search for a book that is not
available in the library in such a situation users get irritated and waste their time.

It could be that the problem most libraries have is that staff members delete information on the
system by accident and, if it’s not carefully backed up at regular intervals, such information is
lost forever. This can pose significant risk to important library information and data, so certain
practices need to be implemented in terms of good backup software to ensure this doesn’t
happen. The proposed research will improve security to avoid such error handling.

Libraries now send and retrieve data from databases to help better manage inventory and the like,
but some libraries don’t have the right data encryption practices in place. This can often lead to
lost data and sometimes, the data easily obtainable by criminals. Sager, D. (2001).

Lack of security It appears that student’s information can be lost and books tend to go missing
from the library.

Existing system does not have any facility of teacher’s login or student login where as proposed
system will have a facility of student login as well as teacher s login ii. Existing system does not
have a facility of online reservation of books whereas proposed system has a facility of online
reservation of books iii. Existing system does not have any facility of online notice board where
description of workshops happening in our college as well as nearby colleges is being provided
lack of data storage There were a lot of library files, report and documents which are not
accommodated.

It appears that the existing system is not user friendly, because of the retrieval and storing of data
is slow.

Poor Data Storage. The data storage of the manual library management was not enough to accept
a number of files and reports. Lack of Information. Reports and updates with respect to library
transactions and services are not well disseminated.

It seems false credential information is given and criminal activities are seemly taking place.
1.1 Aim/Objectives

1.2.1 The main objective of this research is to monitor the services and transactions of the system
and support the day to day operations of the library Management system.

1.3.1 Objectives

 To automate the existing system of manually maintain the records of the Book Issue,
Book Return from the student, Stock Maintenance, Catalogue and Book Search to be
computerized. So the Book Issue, Return, searching will be faster.

 To achieve the proposed Library System would be able to Perform efficient, transparent
and reliable library Services.

 At the end of the research, would allow for online booking and Borrowing of electronics
and Books.

 Facilitate better storage capacity, better sorting of efficient reports, quick sorting of
information, preparation of efficient reports and accuracy of data with no redundancy

Justification

This research is to facilitate the administrators to keep an eye on the library department's all

functions. Also, it enables librarians and users to save time on daunting tasks and enhances
efficiency.
This Research helps educational institutes such as schools, colleges, and coaching centers to
manage library functions automatically. The prime benefits of the automated library
management system are to reduce overheads and increase productivity. The librarians can
maintain all library functions easily. In short, this system supports keeping the records of all
transactions of the books available in the library.

Delimitation
 Personal information of staff
 Daily information of outgoing and incoming books
 The research will include a barcode reader

Contraints
The goal of this research is a fully functional Library System that will be tailored to IUM library
transactions. The time constraint on this research could be a problem.

Literature Review
A review of Literature reveals that a computerized library management system will

 Help improve the library services

 Help the Liberians with management information
 Increase rates of tasks completed accurately
Sager’s (2001) writings on identifying the skills and attributes needed in library administration
derive from his work as a library executive recruiter. He has conversed with many library
administrators, board members and trustees, search committees, and job candidates and proposes
that successful managers need not only the traditional skills that have defined a library
manager’s role, but also many newer skills as well. Sager believes that there is “much greater
complexity in managing today’s libraries

The Next Library Leadership: Attributes of Academic and Public library Directors discusses in
great detail the leadership qualities and styles, managerial qualities, personal qualities, and
knowledge areas that are desirable for a library director in either a public or academic setting. A
Delphi study was used to gather data from public library directors via email to identify and rank
leadership attributes and the results of their research are defined through narratives as well as in
tabular for
Methodology

To develop the Library Management System Software, There we are decided the three Different layers
Presentation Layer, Logical Layer and Database Layer. In Presentation Layer to design the interface of
the software. In Logical Layer to decide and write the program for to performing the library task
execution under the decide module. In Database layer to analysis and design the database of the Module.
Carry out web-based surveys of curricula, as they relate to coverage of LMSs and related topics, and of
professionals, to determine their workplace needs for education in this specific area , Invite selected
respondents from to test the teaching materials being developed for the range of hosted LMSs  Carry out
a literature review of both the developing demands on LMSs in terms of the search facilities they offer
and on practical methods of teaching basic interface design, and develop new teaching materials, using as
testers people selected from. Evaluate, by means of post-test questionnaires for developers and course
participants. In this to collect the information for the exits Library System. To study about the
introduction, Problem of the system. To analyze the aim of the project. To collects the actual information
about the library from the original record of the organization. To decide the step of the solution of analyze
problem using the decided methodology and technology of the project. To design the interface of the
project using the design interface software Visual basic . Designed interface is user-friendly.

Hardware and Software requirements

This section describes the software and hardware requirements of the system

Software requirements

 Operating system – Windows 7 is used as the operating system as it is stable and supports
more features and is more user friendly.
