Background:
The composition and handling of ductile irons are very similar to those of gray irons. The difference between
the two irons is that solidified graphite is spherical in ductile iron but in flake form in gray iron. Ductile iron,
as the name implies, has high ductility with resulting high impact strength for shock load applications. At
elevated temperature, due to better resistance towards oxidation, ductile iron displays better corrosion
resistance than grey iron.

Usage:

Gears subjected to impact loading, generator shafts, pump bodies, glands, glass mould, spur gears, worm
gears, sprockets, heavy duty gears, rotors.
