9.1 General
The technical proposal we are adopting for residential building and also highly experienced in
civil work contract administration for carrying out the assignment. The Project
Organizational Chart, which describes the organizational structure and site organization of
the project under consideration, is as indicated here under and also the site lay out describe.
Having carried out detailed investigation and study on the contract document, our firm has
given assignment to a group of key personnel led by NAOL GETACHEW (Project Engineer)
had visited the project site for about two days. Upon the site visit, the team has collected
basic information and inputs regarding accessibility of the sites, local materials, labor sources
and climatic conditions of the works.
There are two seasons around the project areas, one from January up to May and October up
to December (Known by Bega) and the other from June up to September (known by Keremt).
The first one mentioned here above is not intense and is believed not to be difficult for
carrying out construction activities. As far as the second rainy season is concerned, the team
has gathered information from the locality and found that heavy rain and intensive shower
definitely impede and make the construction activities impossible.
Up on receiving the Notice to commence the works the project activity will be commenced
by collecting complete set of Project Documents and project Information, followed by
organizing and equipping of the project team with the necessary manpower & construction
equipment within mobilization period.
Within the time of project commencement period which takes place within 15 days from

Steps to be followed
The corners of the structure will be located from the existing bench marks with
reference to the site plan.
Profile board is first constructed around the structure at a minimum offset of
distance of 1 meter leaving sufficient space for any construction purpose after
clearing and grubbing has done
The profile board should be strong enough to support the tension applied from the
carpenter’s string and also the elevation of the bard will be kept equal using water
levels stretched all around. (if possible it should be made from timber to keep the
water level of the whole grid in equal position)
Finally the controlling (Checking) points will be located using precise surveying equipment
in coordinate form (Nothing, Easting and Elevation).
Excavation Methodology
We will request relevant permits to commence excavation activity from the engineer.
We will give due notice to the Engineer in accordance with the Conditions of Contract
whenever the trench invert is about to be ready for examination and no further work
will proceed thereon until the Engineer’s approval is given
Where stated on the Drawings or elsewhere in the Specification, the excavation will
be carried out as described and the Final Surface treated as specified.
We will make faces of excavations clean and trimmed to the required lines and levels.
Any parts of the formation inconsistent with the nature and texture of the main
formation will be removed if authorized by the Engineer,
We will make our maximum effort to not excavate below the formation level or
beyond any exposed faces shown on the Drawings.
We will maintain the minimum width and depth of Trench, Bulk and Pit as indicated
on the Drawings and excavate vertically. But depending on the excavation depth and
the type of excavated material and the engineer order, we will provide battering in
such a way that sloping. The extra slope excavation is included in your rate and will
be made by your cost.
We will not use digging machinery where its operation will cause damage to trees,
buildings, underground utilities or existing structures above or below the ground. At
such locations hand methods will be employed to avoid damage,
If any slip, land slide or fall of the material from the sides of the excavations and
embankments occur, we will immediately make good the same including all surface
restoration, at our own expense.
We will inform the engineer and take the necessary action agreed prior to proceeding.
Upon completing excavation for excavation of Bulk, Pit and Trench, the Contractor
shall get it inspected and approved by the Engineer.

specified on the technical specification and the test is carried out in EiABC.
Transportation of concrete is done by labor up to 1st floor by stiff inclined wood ladder. When
we go up shifted from labor to mechanical lifter that is winch. From lifter by labor the work
is accomplished.
Productivity
Careful mixing of concrete is essential. Mixing times will vary according to the mix, the
mixer and whether or not the mixer is filled to capacity. A uniform color is usually a good
guide to efficient mixing and it will be attained by visual inspection with estimated time sate
on standard literature.
Curing of Concrete
No concrete will allowed becoming prematurely dry and the fresh concrete will be
carefully protected from the rain, sun and wind for a period of seven days by applying
water on building paper, sacking, sand, sawdust or other approved means.
The protective layer and the concrete itself will be kept continuously wet, and manual
watering is applied by hosepipe at frequent intervals.
Traffic or loading which cause deflection, or other movement, in the formwork, or
damage to the concrete members will not be allowed on the concrete until the
concrete is sufficiently mature.
Water; The site will have pure water supply access and in case of supply problem it will be
stored and distributed about the site in containers, vessels and through pipe work and
distributed about the site in containers, vessels and through pipe work which shall not
contaminate it.
The requirement that air voids be kept to a minimum means that the materials must be so
proportioned that the mix is workable enough to be fully compacted with the means
available. The use of mechanical compaction equipment allows a drier and potentially
stronger and more durable mix to be used than if compaction is done by manual methods.
Testing concrete is only to confirm the concrete produced meets the desired properties. The
main part is having true-construction practice.
The following activities and equipment’s will be checked with respect to corresponding
method statements specified prior to concrete production.
Since concrete is workable material while it is fresh, but difficult once it hardened
even to demolish. We will carefully check the following drawings superimposing one
over the other.
The type and quality of cement including date of expire,
The quality of local materials, such as gravel, sand, etc.
The quality of water,
The formwork construction,
Position & number of reinforcement bar,
The equipment required (mixer, vibrator, etc.)
Activity:
The series of operations which will be performed on the raw materials will determine the
strength, durability and appearance of the finished work.
Concrete will be mixed on site with concrete mixers and cast in place after the approval by
the engineer and left free from any disturbance to be cured for sufficient time until it attains
its strength.
After the engineer’s approval of the ingredients of concrete, the re-bar and the formwork
construction, fresh concrete shall be mixed with the help of high capacity concrete mixers
and transported by dampers and then poured in to the formwork using labor and winch in
combination of concrete basket.
Before the concrete is placed in its final position, the insides of the forms will be inspected to
make sure they are clean and have been treated with release agent (plastic or oil). Where the
forms are deep, temporary openings should be provided for this inspection. Rubbish, such as
sawdust, shavings and wire, will be blown out with compressed air or broom.
The concrete will be placed in its final position rapidly so that it is not too stiff to work. On
no account water will be added after the concrete has left the mixer. A mass of concrete,
which will have to be moved to some other part of the form, should not be allowed to
accumulate in one place. The concrete will be placed as closely as possible to its final
position. It will never be moved by vibrating it and allowing it to flow, as this may result in
segregation which will show on the surface of the finished work.
Vibration
Concrete is to achieve its maximum strength, it must be compacted so that it contains the
minimum of unwanted air. This is easy with a wet, workable mix, but the excess water in
this sort of concrete contributes to weakness. The strongest and most durable concrete is
as dry as can be fully compacted by the means available.
Concrete will be compacted using poker type vibrators inside the formwork & around the
reinforcement. Care should be taken:-
It will be placed vertically in the concrete, held in position until air bubbles cease
to come to the surface
Over-vibration is not allowed, but it is not as common as under-vibration. Over-
vibration may cause segregation and the formation of a weak layer is formed at
the top of a pour.

Block area=40cm*20cm=0.08m2
Block with c/c mortar of area =41cm*21cm=0.0861m2
We prefer to purchase HCB from potential vendors rather than producing on site since the
cost of Producing blocks on site is greater as compared to purchasing from suppliers as the
site is not much far from the suppliers; it will be lower transportation cost.
Transportation: Transportation from vendor to site will be by Dump Truck and shipment
cost will be negotiated with vendor.
Block Storage location is arranged within a preferable distance from the main building and
except for elevated difficult block work positions which are transportation is by winch and
manual transportation is adopted for others.eg. Ground floor blocks work.

Mortar:
Mortar for block work will be produced mechanically using mixer as the cost of manual
production is costly than mechanical.
Equipment for mortar mix and transportation will be prepared, mixer, barrel, winch
etc.
Mortar ingredients, cement, sand and potable water will be insured in required
quantity and quality.
Pattern of HCB is properly maintained, linearity as well as alignment will be checked
And also Walls will be checked with perfect plumb bob alignment prior to the
commencement of mortar lying.
Required manpower will be arranged for quick manual feeding of materials to the
drum and transportation of fresh mix to the point of delivery prior to hardening of
mortar.
Appropriate skilled mason will continue to place mortar joint according to the
required thickness and level.
Gradual lying of blocks above the mortar joint prior to hardening of mortar will be
followed. HCB walls will be constructed with competent masons in layers approved
by the engineer.
Joints of blocks will be checked to be evenly distributed and not to exceed a
