INTRODUCTION
Project Context
The target of this system was to monitor the daily student attendance and to inform
parents about the attendance of their children. All of the daily students’ attendance saved in a
specific database. When the students log-on by tapping their fingerprint on the scanner, it
automatically generate a message that sent to their parents hand phone via SMS. The system
covered two main functionalities: First is to get the attendance information of the student and
second is to send SMS to the parents if their son/daughter is absent to alert them. This system also
make the school management system to be more systematic, efficient and smoothly processed.
Fingerprint is a form of biometric identification which is unique as well as does not
change in one’s entire lifetime. It consists of two processes namely; enrollment and
authentication. Computerized Attendance Monitoring System of Jones Rural School with SMS
Alert is one of the most advanced application in biometric technology. It cannot be forged easily.
With the integration and use of biometric technology getting simpler, our proposed system also
contains a GSM Modem which can be used to send the attendance information of the students
automatically to their parents and also stored the attendance of respective students for calculate
the stored attendance percentage weekly and alerts to class in charge of respective class. This
project is to send SMS alert to his/her guardian by means of GSM when attendance is calculated.
Fingerprints are matched with the stored fingerprints by using the scanner. Fingerprint
authentication has many advantages such as very high accuracy, the most economical biometric
PC user authentication technique. If fingerprint is matched, then attendance is accepted otherwise
it is rejected.
A computerized attendance monitoring system maintains the standard flow of data and
information with highly secured and make data processing faster and easier. These computerized
systems helps one person, company, organization or any type of management agency throughout
the world to enhance and develop its general profile.
This chapter presents a brief discussion of the literature reviewed by the researchers
which further enriched the coned the conceptualization of the study and help in describing the
cognitive design that guides the conducting of the said research.

Vaibhavi Desai and Yugandhara Gore (2018) development and management of
attendance reports using biometrics is proposed. The system makes use of fingerprints, which is a
unique identification for every person. The method proposed here would eliminate the use of
stationary materials as well as reduce human efforts in the process of attendance development.
This paper also provides design method for generating SMS alerts using GSM.
Rishabh Mishra and Prashant Trivedi (2016) Attendance is marked after student
identification. For student identification, a fingerprint recognition based identification system is
used. Fingerprints are considered to be the best and fastest method for biometric identification.
They are secure to use, unique for every person and does not change in one’s lifetime. Fingerprint
recognition is a mature field today, but still identifying individual from a set of enrolled
fingerprints is a time taking process. It was our responsibility to improve the fingerprint
identification system for implementation on large databases e.g. of an institute or a country etc. In
this project, many new algorithms have been used e.g. gender estimation, key based one to many
matching, removing boundary minutiae. Using these new algorithms, we have developed an
identification system which is faster in implementation than any other available today in the
market. Although we are using this fingerprint identification system for student identification
purpose in our project, the matching results are so good that it could perform very well on large
databases like that of a country like India (MNIC Project).

employees.
C. Abaton, M. Garcia, J.Malumag and G. Uniana(2015) Attendance Monitoring
System of Our Lady of Victories Acadamy, Amulong Cagayan is only applicable to the teachers
and other staff or personnel in the school using their ID. it is only applicable to the students if
there is a huge activities in school. Every school takes its responsibilities towards monitoring
student’s attending very seriously. Mostly high school are prone to absences. It is because of
some reasons that they think it is a boring class, laziness to attend the class.
Joken Villanueva,MIT(2016) RFID Based Attendance Monitoring System with SMS
Notification System maintains the student login and logout time. Parents get instant SMS
notification on their mobile phones as soon as their child Enters/ Exits the school. Children are
given smart ID-card. As they show the smart card on the RFID transporter during Entry/Exit to
the school, their parents whether they are at home or at the office, come to know that their child
has entered or exited from the school through an SMS. The School authorities can see real time
attendance on the screen. The system is also provide a status whether the message has been sent
to the parent mobile or not for proper monitoring.
Liza Gomez (2016) System include the problem because after tapping a student QR
code, that will send SMS log in or log out of each students to the mobile number of parents or
guardian. To develop a computerized system that will identify the students if he/she is currently
enrolled in school. The student’s lists from the registrar are transferred in the database. Through
this, the system can easily identify currently enrolled of students. Sometimes, parents do not have
privileged to send their children at school or to monitor their child. Parents usually give a hundred
percent of trust to their child that entering the school. But this generation some students are
skipping the time of class that may cause the absences in the subject. This system gives benefits
to the parents. With doing this it helps to ease worries among the parents. Parents just make sure
that their children are entering the campus.

Raghunadha, Redady.N,and M.Aravindan(2017) Biometric time and attendance
system is one of the most successful applications of biometric technology, serves an alternate for
traditional manual signing process. We designed and implemented a reliable, scalable and cost
effective Biometric Attendance System over GSM technology by which we can avoid human
interaction to update the data. In the proposed system the primary part is enrolling the user
fingerprints into the memory. At the time of verification if the user is already an enrolled person
then the proposed system will provide the attendance to the user or else it will give the result as
invalid user. The results however show that fingerprint biometric identifier was found suitable for
the employee attendance management system of the organization.
Prabhakar S. (2017) Biometric recognition, or simply biometrics, refers to the automatic
recognition of individuals based on their physiological and/or behavioural characteristics.
Biometrics can be used to identify the person as person. Tokens, such as smart cards, magnetic
stripe cards, photo ID cards, physical keys and so forth, can be lost, stolen, duplicated, or left at
home. Passwords can be forgotten, shared, or observed. Moreover, today’s fast-paced electronic
world means people are asked to remember a multitude of passwords and personal identification
numbers (PINs) for computer accounts, bank ATMs, e-mail accounts, wireless phones, web sites
and so forth. Biometrics holds the promise of fast, easy-to-use, accurate, reliable, and less
expensive authentication for a variety of applications.
Rahman S. (2017) Most of the works depends on computer application. The traditional
student attendance includes all the hassles of roll calling and very time consume of the students as
well as teachers for conducting the classes in the department. The process is very boring and very
time-consume of the students as well as teachers. So, a new approach will be needed to handle
this process. This motivates us to design a reliable system for student attendance. The Biometric
Identification Systems are widely used for unique identification of humans, like students, mainly
for verification and identification. Also, the use of biometric features in student attendance
management system is a secure approach. A biometric system can be either an 'identification'
system or a 'verification' (authentication) system.
Rajan Datt, Utsav Shah and Dharmin Shah (2018) In order to identify various thing
are used as iris, lip print, fingerprint. In this paper we have developed Students Attendance
Management System which is for the developmentof this system we have used Raspberry Pi 3,
Serial 16x2 Serial LCD and Fingerprint Scanner tools. By using this we have developed system
which isstoring information of the student, verifying detail and generate report for the future use.
During the attendance verification student keep his finger against the sacanner and system will
find whether the record is existing in the database or not, display proper message. wWe have also
test system with various test case and found good results. By using this system teacher can save
their time and increase acurancy.
Mahatma Ghandi (2017) Fingerprint based student attendance monitoring system that
can be used to monitor attendance of the student. It will eliminate the problems of manual
method. The new system utilizes a portable fingerprint scanner as the input to acquire fingerprint
images and notebook personal computer as the mobile terminal for the processing of the images
and records attendance. It also include database to store student’s information and attendance
records. Visual Basic.net was used as the programming language to develop this system. The
system was tested and found working correctly.
