of confidence, promotion of co-operation, promotion of
one’s talent.
Benefits of self-reliance are:
 It enable one to achieve life’s goals
 It enable one to depend on oneself
 It develops community
 It helps to one to solve one’s problems e.t.c
How to nurture talent

constant practice. (4) self-esteem (5) encouragement from

Week Culture;  Culture can be defined as the way of people’s life in a
3-4 meaning and particular place. This includes the people’s belief, religion,
characteristics art and craft language.
Teacher can add more notes.
 Components or aspect of culture are:
1) Material or tangible culture: this refers to a physical objects that
portrays people’s culture. e.g food, clothes, house, mats, pots.
E.t.c
2) Non material culture or intangible culture refers to abstract
things or object found in our ways of life. Examples are religion,
belief, values, language. E.t.c
 Characteristics of culture are:
1) Culture is learned and inherited
2) Culture is shared among the people

Week 5-6 Basic computer Computer can be defined as an electronic device
concept which accept data as an input processes it, stores it,
and give out information.
Parts of computer
Software, hardware, system unit.
A)Software: a part of computer that can not be seen
Types of software are: system program and
application program.
B) hardware:is a part of computer that can not be
seen and touch. This includes system unit and the
peripheral
Peripheral include input and output devices
examples of input devices are: keyboard, mouse,
light, pen, joystick, scanner, puck, stylus, etc.
Examples of output devices include: monitor,
speaker, printer, scanner etc.
C) system unit contains central processing unit CPU
main memory etc.

computer mentioned
Week 7 Document Document Are the record of an official paper or book
that gives information about something.
Types of documents are:
 Purchase order, invoice, debit note, credit note,
cash register,cheque, receipt etc.
 Teacher writes notes on all these and shows
students how there are (in the textbook page 85-
88 business studies Jss1)
Week 8-9 Journal Journal is the first book in which the record of business
transaction was kept.
Types of journal;
Special journal, sales journal, purchase journal, return
outward journal, return inward journal, general journal.
Teacher should write note and explain each journal by
showing students picture from class textbook (page 90-
94 business studies Jss1)

Week Immunisation Immunisation is the artificial inducement of immunity against a
3 particular diseases.
Children in Nigeria are usually immunized against seven
diseases that commonly cause deaths namely.
 Poliomyelitis, measles, tuberculosis, to tetanus, yellow
fever, whooping cough and diphtheria.
Week STDs, S.T.D means sexual transmitted diseases which is an infection
4 HIV/AIDS that can be spread from one person to another through having
sexual intercourse with infected person.
 S.T.Ds are:
(1)Chlamydia (2) staphylococcus aures. (3) gonorrhea. (4)
syphilis. (5) Hiv/Aids.

Week Free hand This a quick way of drawing objects with out using any
5 sketching instrument.

 Sketching materials are:

(6) fine grade sand paper.
 Practical: Teacher assigns student to bring out sketching
materials and show them. (1) how to a pencil (2) how
sketch a circle and arcs. (3)how to sketch irregular curves e

Week Wood work Wood work hand tools are those tools used without electricity.

students to see.
Week Drug Abuse Drug abuse refers to excessive use of drugs without the

 Effects of drug abuse are:
(1)curiosity (2) lack of self confidence (3) search for excitement
(4) reduction of stress. (5) fit in a peer group.
 Classification of drug abuse are:

Week Solar system Solar system consist of the sum and nine planets. And they are:
8 Teacher should draw solar system and nine planet writing the
name of each planet.
 Rotation and revalutionof the earth and moon:
 Rotation of the earth: the earth rotates on it’s axis and
completes one one rotation in 24 hours i.e one day.
 Rotation of the moon: moon revolve round the earth in 28
days this is called one lunar month.
Teacher draws the earth and moon as they rotates and also
writes on eclipse of the moon and sun.

Week Plants and Plants refers to any thing that grows in the earth and usually
