General Description:
The EasiCheck Control Panels on a Cooper EasiCcheck network communicate using pre-
configured network variables and cannot normally be used with a Building Management
System (BMS) where binding is required.
The EC201 BMS interface is an ‘add-on’ to the network which translates the pre-configured
network variables to a set of unconfigured network variables which can then be bound to a
BMS, giving full access to the fire network data.
The gateway has 2 channels. Channel 1 connects to the Cooper Easicheck network. Channel
2 connects to the BMS.

Features:
 Allows a Cooper EasdiCheck network to be controlled by a LonWorks enabled BMS.
 Uses Echelon FT5000 smart transceivers for high noise immunity.
 32 message input buffer
 Compact DIN rail mounting enclosure

EC201 Easicheck to BMS Communication Protocol:

Events generated by the Easicheck network are read and buffered by the EC201.

When new event data is available in the buffer, nvoTxDataReady will be set to 1. The new
event data is then available for reading by the BMS via the output network variables listed
above.

After the new event data has been read by the BMS, the BMS must update the nviNextAlarm
input network variable with the value 1. This signals to the EC201 that the data has been read
successfully. The EC201 will then clear the nvoTxDataReady network variable. If there is
another event available in the buffer, nvoTxDataReady will be set to 1 again and so on until the
buffer is empty.

*If the EC201 is located at the end of the network system (Spur) a 102Ω Termination resistor
must be fitted 1A, 1B to give a 51 Ω line resistance when in parallel with the other network end
Termination resistor.

Protocol Summary:

Fire Network EC201 BMS

Events transmitted to the network
nvoTxDataReady=1
Read output network variables
nviNextAlarm=1
nvoTxDataReady=0
More data available
nvoTxDataReady=1
Read output network variables
nviNextAlarm=1
nvoTxDataReady=0
No more data available

Buffer Overflow indicator:

nvoBuffOvr increments each time a message is lost due to the EC201’s input buffer
overflowing. This mayhappen if the BMS is not processing network events fast enough.
nvoBuffOvr may be cleared by the BMS by writing the value
