    INTRODUCTION

    This subject is designed to provide the students with a thorough understanding of


    theory and practice in the measurement and description of construction works.

    A study of the Standard Method of Measurement of building works will be carried


    out and its practical application in various systems of Bills of Quantities preparation
    forms a major part of the syllabus.

    COURSE OUTCOMES

    At the end of semesters, students should be:

    1. Ability to interpret drawings and prepare schedules for the purpose of


    measurement.

    2. Ability to measure reinforced insitu concrete works, internal plumbing,


    sanitary fittings as well as builder's works in connection.

    3. Ability to analyse prices of measured items and prepare specification clauses


    covering materials and workmanship.

    COURSE DESCRIPTION

    This subject is designed to provide the students with a thorough understanding of


    theory and practice in the measurement and description of construction works. This
    will include a reference to the Standard Method of Measurement of Building Works
    (SMM) and its practical application to the measurement of in-situ reinforced
    concrete work, internal plumbing and sanitary installation including builder’s work in
    connection (BWIC) and preparation of schedules for measurement purposes.

    SYLLABUS CONTENT

    SECTION A – MEASUREMENT OF BUILDING WORKS

    Schedule
     preparation and uses of schedules for the purposed of measurement

    Measurement
     measurement of in-situ reinforced concrete work such as substructure,
    frame, upper floor and staircase.
     measurement of internal plumbing and sanitary installation including builder’s
    work in connection (BWIC)

    SECTION B – ANALYSIS OF PRICES


    Analysis of prices for the various works covered in Section A

    SECTION C – SPECIFICATION
    Preparation of specification clauses for the various works covered in the Section A

    ASSESSMENT

    Examination - Measurement of Building Works : 35%


    - Analysis of Prices : 20%

    Coursework/Test - Measurement of Building Works : 35%


    - Specification : 10%
    Total : 100%

    Passing Mark : 50%
