to the sustainable
development goals. It is divided into individuals. Society and country.
First and foremost, for individuals this home shelter has given benefits to HIV patients to regain their
mental and physical well-being.
The emotional and physical health of the HIV patient is surely affected due to the disease and people's
judgement. Furthermore, these HIV patients usually were abandoned and neglected by their families and
close friends because they were ashamed and disgusted by the disease. Moreover, this situation may
affect the emotions of the HIV patient which is not good for their treatment. The shelter care has provided
counseling and psychosocial as well as spiritual support service to improve the mental health of the hiv
patient. In addition, the patients can be more focused on getting treatment and regaining their physical
energy. Some individuals who are diagnosed with positive HIV may find it challenging to begin the HIV
treatment. However, for physical well being there are numerous advantages to beginning treatment as
quickly as possible after diagnosis. HIV/AIDS patients must push and motivate themselves to take
advantage of the opportunity to receive treatment at a home shelter, which is more convenient and away
from the judgmental society, in order to recover. Besides, treatment must be the first priority for them to
recover, even though there is no effective cure currently.
Next, for society. this home shelter care can end the discrimination of society towards HIV/AIDS
patients.
People who have HIV/AIDS still face a lot of stigma and discrimination in society. Society cannot accept
the hard truth of HIV/AIDS, which fact that HIV does not spread easily. Furthermore, many people are
unaware of the disease HIV/AIDS because the society only knows that HIV/AIDS is a cursed disease
from God and that it causes very rapid symptoms in HIV/AIDS patients, as well as causing the patient to
die. The myth that circulates in society is that social relations with people with HIV / AIDS such as shaking
hands, using the same toilet, living in the same house will make us infected, but it is not true at all
because HIV only can be spread through anal or vaginal sex, sharing needles or having contact with
bloods or body fluids from a person who has HIV . The home shelter is open for people to volunteer to
help and to visit to see the real perspective of HIV patients. There are also various interesting activities
and programs held at the shelter between the patients and visitors to show that HIV cannot be spread by
physical touch. Thus, the stigma and discrimination against them should end as we honestly should
encourage and motivate them to never give up to get treatment.
Lastly, shelter care has provided better care and treatment for a lot of patients in need and it continues to
overcome the number of AIDS patients in need. As Malaysia has always committed to ending AIDS by
the year 2030 in line with the Sustainable development goal.
Malaysia will focus on expanding treatment coverage of HIV to achieve the 95% target by the year 2030.
As the Shelter Home for people living with HIV (PLWH) has committed to treating the HIV survivor with
better treatment by providing services including basic nursing care, palliative care, medical referrals,
bereavement counseling, and psychosocial as well as spiritual support service. The purpose of the shelter
home is to educate and give treatment to HIV survivors. It has increased the chance or percentage of the
goal to reduce the number of HIV patients by 2030 to achieve it. Even Though there is no effective cure
currently exists for HIV, however, with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled.
