This includes your sexuality. Figure out what you
can do to improve your health if it is not as good
as it can be.
MAKING GOOD DECISIONS

must have the
courage to make
difficult decisions
and stick to them.
COMMUNICATING EFFECTIVELY
helps you avoid misunderstanding by
expressing your feelings in a healthy

what people say,
they will want to

well.
PRACTICING WELLNESS

SETTING GOALS

you a sense of accomplishment.
Just be sure to
be realistic with

DECISION MAKING
A decision is a choice you make or act upon. A
good decision is a decision in which you have
carefully considered the outcomes of each
choice. To accept personal responsibility is to
accept how your decisions may affect you and
other people.
Decision-making skills will help you
make decisions based on your
needs and desires. At the same
time, it helps you resist peer
pressure.

Your decisions related to your
sexual behaviors affect yourself
and others now or later in your
life. These sexual behaviors
may be toward yourself, your
family, your friends, or other
people.
Thus, what you choose to do, and
how you behave, should be guided by
family, social, and spiritual
standards, and should be based on
decision making steps or procedures.
We all encounter people in our
lives.
Here are some descriptions of
people.
SHOW OFF
– people who would like to be
the center of attraction
whenever possible.
WORRIERS
– people who
worry about
everything.
GOSSIPMONGERS
– people who
spread rumors
and often
exaggerate
information.
BULLIES
– people who use threats, fear, and cruelty
to control others.
WHINERS
– people who
grumble and
complain about
everything.
Do you possess any of this
personality traits?
What will you do to turn this trait
positively in order to improve your
personality and sexuality?

– family values oftentimes determine
your own values.

– Filipinos living in different
regions have diverse
cultures and beliefs. Your
cultural background can
affect your values
regarding sexuality, along
with the norms and
standards set by society.
PEERS
– your friends can also have a
significant impact on your views
on human sexuality.
MEDIA
– plays a significant
role in our lives as
we regularly watch
tv, listen to radio,
browse the
internet, etc.
Double standard of morality gives the
impression of men being superior to
women. In as much as we would like
to practice gender equality, the rules
for human conduct and human
appropriateness are not alike for both
sexes as practiced in most areas in
the Philippines.

Boys and men
are permitted
to stay out
more and up to
a later time
than girls and
women.
A philandering or immoral man is considered
as demonstrating his manliness or
pagkalalaki. A philandering or immoral
woman is considered as cheap, bad, or
masamang babae.
Women are expected to remain virginal
until they marry, while it is generally
acceptable for men to have sexual
experience before marriage.
Women are
socially judged
and legally
penalized for
adultery and for
having children
out of wedlock.
Men who stay at
home to do
household chores
instead of having
jobs to earn money
for the family are
considered by some
as under’d saya.
Your values will always be a
special trademark of your
personality.
It will reflect your characteristics,
traits, and beliefs.
Through your
values, people may
also see how you
handle situations,
how you deal with
your family and how
other people
influence you.
Your stand and affirmation will also be
reflected especially on the maturity of
your sexual health and life.
As an effect
of this, some
people
experience
crisis with
themselves.
This is commonly
known as IDENTITY
CRISIS, where
someone encounters
confusion or
questions in one’s
sexuality and
personality.

spirituality, interests, beliefs, and/or anything
that will create a major impact in your life.
You suddenly
experience
internal conflict
and ask yourself
about your role
in the society.
You are searching for new passion in
life and you lost interest in things you
enjoyed doing before.
A sudden feeling of depression,
hopelessness, or worthlessness.
FACTORS that CAUSE
IDENTITY CRISIS
Health Issues
Loss of loved one, separation
from friends or relationships.
Traumatic Experience
Transfer from one place to
another
Failing
grades
or losing a
job
Not Getting Wants or Needs
SUGGESTIONS on how you
can handle IDENTITY CRISIS
Reflect on your strengths rather
than dwelling on your
weaknesses
Try to explore and
do something that
will make you feel
fulfilled as a
person.
Look for your support group
such as family, friends, and
counselling services.
Do not always think on how
other people will judge you and
avoid self judgement as well.
VIRGIN – refers to a person who
has not had sexual intercourse
VIRGINITY – is the quality/state
of being chaste
ABSTINENCE
It is the best decision one can make
in safeguarding sexual health.
Values are strong beliefs held
by persons, families, and
group of people about
important issues. It is
essential to know one’s own
values, beliefs, and attitudes,
how they influence the rights
of others and how to stand up
for them.
As you mature, you
develop your own
values which may be
different from one
another. Social norms
and standards can
affect your sexual
decision making and
influence your values
and behavior.
Your sex should not limit your
interests. You can be masculine
and feminine and participate in
events and professions that are
usually chosen by persons of
only one sex. Healthful sexuality
is being comfortable and
contented with your attitudes
about your sex role.
Human sexuality is the
totality of being man or
being woman. It includes
everything that makes you a
male or female – your ideas,
behavior, feelings, and
judgements.
