The document specifies the technical requirements for a shell and tube heat exchanger including scope, applicable codes and standards, design requirements, materials, manufacture, inspection and testing, and field tests.

The design requirements specify that the heat exchanger must be designed to meet ASME and TEMA standards and lists process parameters like flow rates, temperatures, pressures for the shell and tube sides.

It lists the materials for different components like shells, tubes, tube sheets, baffles and specifies that they must be made of stainless steel 304L as a minimum.

Equipment Specification

1. Technical Specification For Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger For Reflector Cooling System
2. Scope of Supply : This specification establishes the technical

requirements for the supply of shell and tube heat exchanger. The scope of supply includes design manufacture, inspection ,shop testing packing delivery to site at Dhruva Stores, Trombay, testing at site and performance guarantee of one shell and tube heat exchanger complete with spares, maintenance tools, counter flanges and foundation bolts.
3. APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS

The design, material, manufacture, inspection, testing and performance of the shell and tube heat exchanger shall comply with the requirements of latest edition of codes and standards specified hereunder & the data sheets as also other relevant specifications, if any. In the event of any conflict between the requirements of this specification and the documents listed below, this specification shall govern. 7. Welds

Welding materials shall meet the requirements of the relevant specifications listed in part C of ASME Section II. All welding materials shall also conform to the requirements of clause NC 2400 of ASME Section III, sub-section NC. All welding procedures used in the fabrication of the heat exchangers shall be qualified in accordance with Section -III, NC and Section -IX of ASME code. The root passes of the welds, not accessible from both sides shall be made by inert gas tungsten arc (GTAW) process using inserts. Subsequent passes may be made by using MMA Process. However the entire tube to tube sheet welding shall be carried out by only GTAW process. All welds, unless otherwise specified, shall be full penetration welds. All surfaces to be joined shall be thoroughly cleaned to prevent weld contamination and all weld preparation shall be machined smooth. Any flame cut edges shall be machined or ground back to a minimum of 2 mm. past the deepest indentation. AH weld surface shall be ground smooth with maximum reinforcement of 1.5 mm. and shall be free from any crevice or undercut. Any procedure for the repair of defects in the weldments and all other materials shall be submitted to the purchaser for his approval prior to carrying out any repairs.

Detailed test procedures for all tests to be conducted at site shall be submitted by the vendor sufficiently in advance to the purchaser for his approval. After completion of erection of heat exchangers at site, heat exchanger shall be hydro statically tested by the vendor on both shell side and tube side to the test pressures indicated in Data Sheet. Any defect detected during these tests shall be rectified at no extra cost by the vendor until the test results become satisfactory. The performance tests shall be conducted at site to demonstrate their performance guarantee and rectification of all defects shall be satisfactorily done. If the equipment fails to meet the guarantee in any respect, for any reason whatsoever, and it is necessary for the vendor to make alterations for the purpose of meeting the guarantees, the necessary alterations shall be made by the contractor at no extra expense to the purchaser. The performance test shall be repeated by the vendor in the presence of the purchaser or his representative.
