Ss1 Technical Drawing Lesson Plan Week 3

This lesson plan is for a technical drawing class on board practice. The main aims are for learners to apply the technique of fixing a drawing sheet to a board and draw border lines and a title block. Key steps include demonstrating how to properly position the drawing paper and tee square on the board, marking a border line 10mm from the edge, and drawing a title block in the bottom right corner to provide identifying details. The lesson concludes that properly setting up the drawing space is important for accurate technical drawings.

TIME TABLE FIT: In the previous lesson, the learners had learnt about the safety precaution
and safe working habits in technical drawing

MAIN AIM: The learners will be able to apply the technique of fixing drawing sheet to the
board, and elaborate and make a drawing of border line and title block.

SUBSIDIARY AIMS: By the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to
1. Demonstrate the technique of fixing drawing sheet to the board
2. Elaborate and make a drawing of border line and title block

PERSONAL AIM: To ensure that the learners fully understand how to apply the technique of
fixing drawing sheet to the board, and elaborate and make a drawing of border line and title
block

ASSUMPTION: The leaners may have seen or heard about the techniques of fixing of drawing
paper to drawing board and border line and title block from their textbooks or online

ANTICIPATED PROBLEM: The learner may find it difficult to understand how to correctly
apply the technique of fixing drawing sheet to the board, and elaborate and make a drawing of
border line and title block

POSSIBLE SOLUTION: The teacher will have to explain extensively about the correct and
appropriate way of applying the technique of fixing drawing sheet to the board, and elaborate
and make a drawing of border line and title block

TEACHING MATERIAL: Drawing materials and equipment, Posters, Charts, Video clips
etc.

LEAD IN: Board practice can be defined as the best practice of using drawing board for
technical drawing with appropriate technical drawing instruments and materials

PROCEDURE

STEP 1: TECHNIQUES OF FIXING DRAWING PAPER TO DRAWING BOARD

The following procedures on how to arrange a drawing paper on a drawing board should be
observed before any drawing practice is carried out.
1. Place the drawing board conveniently on the table with the stock of the tee-square to the left
hand side of the board.
2. Ensure that the stock of the tee-square laps with the edge of the drawing board, making 90°
angle.
3. Place the drawing paper on the board, leaving equal space all-round the drawing board.
4. Place the tee-square on the paper and gently slide or move the tee square to the top edge of
the paper
5. Set the top edge of the paper parallel to the edge of the tee-square, with the stock of the tee-
square still firmly against the edge of the drawing board on the left hand side.
6. Gently slide the tee-square down without moving the paper.
7. Cut out pieces of adhesive tape to hold the paper in position and place them over the four
corners of the paper
8. Mark out 10mm from the four edges of the drawing paper with the paper if compass and
pencil for a border line
9. Mark out 120×50mm from the right bottom side of the drawing paper for the title block

STEP 2: TITLE BLOCK AND BORDER LINE

 Title block: A title block is comprised of the information boxes found on the bottom right-
hand corner of a drawing, which indicate drawing details such as the title, author name,
scale, and date the drawing was created.

 Border line: A border is a line drawn around the inside edge of the paper. Usually this is
10mmm from the edge of the paper. It is basically a rectangle drawn precisely and inside this
rectangle is the design area.

Example 1: Produce a drawing of a standard border line and title block

Above is an example of how the tile block can look and the information it is supposed to carry.

INTERACTION PATTERN: The use of explanatory, discussion, play-way, sketching,
teacher to learner and learner to learner method in her teaching method

STUDENTS’ EVALUATION:
1. Using drawings illustrate the steps of fixing the drawing paper to drawing board
2. Using an A4 paper and make a drawing of the border line and title block (Fill in your
information where necessary. For the scale use 1:1)

TEACHER’S EVALUATION: The learners fully understood the steps involved in the fixing
of drawing paper to drawing board and the process of drawing border line and title block

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Using drawings, demonstrate the steps of fixing the drawing paper to drawing board
2. Using an A4 paper and make a drawing of the border line and title block (Fill in your
information where necessary. For the scale use 1:1)

CONCLUSION: To be able to achieve an accurately and neat drawing, it is important to know
the procedures from setting up a drawing paper to a drawing board because if the drawing paper
is correctly aligned it will be easy to correctly draw vertical lines and horizontal lines without
having to adjust the paper all the time. Also drawing a border line helps to demarcate the edge
of the drawing paper from the design area which will achieve a neat drawing and title block
gives all the information needed to identify the drawing.

BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE: PURPOSE: The word of God reveals God’s plan and purpose for
humanity (2 tim.3:16-17)
BIBLICAL INTEGRATED LESSON: At the end of the lesson the learner will be able to
understand that just as the word of God reveals God’s plan and purpose so Board practice helps
us to achieve the plan and purpose of drawing, it helps to accurately show that plan and purpose
to the person reading our blue print or drawings.
