Super Mario Scarf

Thank you for purchasing the original pattern of

Super Mario Scarf

Materials:

Yarn: I used Turkish yarn Nako BonBon Kristal Blue #98236, Red #98393, Beige #98209.

But you can use any 2 sport yarn.

You will also need several yards of Black, White, and Yellow yarn for gloves, eyes, eyebrows,
hands, buttons, and mustache.

Yardage: Blue – 600 yards (550 meters), Beige, and Red – less than 100 yards.

Black, White, and Yellow – less than 50 yards.

Crochet Hook: 3.5 MM

Additional: Polyester stuffing.

Size: 50 x 6 inches (125 x 15 cm)

If thick yarn is used, the scarf will turn out bigger than stated; similarly, the thinner
the yarn the smaller the scarf.

Stitches and abbreviations:

CH − Chain Stitch

SC − Single Crochet

SL St − Slip Stitch

DC – Double Crochet

HDC – Half Double Crochet

BLO – Back Loops Only

Scarf
Blue yarn

Round 1. Work a chain CH 60, join ring, DC 60. (Work in a spiral, without joining.)

Round 2. DC 60.

Round 3−130. DC 60.

The Scarf itself is ready, but do not break the yarn yet!

Legs
Work the legs on the both sides of the Scarf. Look at the pictures below.
Each of the legs should be DC 24.
You can start working from either side.

Round 1. DC 24.

Round 2−8. DC 24.

Break the yarn. Use the same pattern for the second leg.

Boots
Brown yarn

Round 1. Work a foundation loop, HDC 8 around.

Round 2. Increasing. HDC 2 in each stitch = 16 total.

Round 3. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 2nd stitch = 24 total.

Round 4. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 3rd stitch = 32 total.

Round 5-8. HDC 32.

At this stage stop working in Rounds, start working in Rows!

Turn, CH 1 (don`t count)

Row 1. HDC 20.

Row 2-4. CH 1 (don`t count), HDC 20.

Row 5. Decreasing. HDC 1 in next 4; together next 12 (decrease 6 times); HDC 1 in next 4.

Join ends. Do not do anything with the hole yet, close it later.

Work in Rounds.

Work 2 rounds of HDC 24. Break the yarn.

Close the hole at the heel. Stuff the Boot.

Use the same pattern for the second Boot.

Sew the Boots on the Legs. (under the pants)

Hands
Red yarn

Round 1. Work a foundation loop, HDC 8 around.

Round 2. Increasing. HDC 2 in each stitch = 16 total.

Round 3. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 4th stitch = 20 total.

Round 4-38. HDC 20.

Stuff the Hands but not very tight.

Round 39. Decreasing. Work together every two stitches.

Round 40. Decreasing. Work together every two stitches.

Close the hole.

Break the yarn.

To attach the Hands make two blue strips:

10 rows of HDC 5.

Sew the strips on the Scarf using sewing needle and thread like you see at
the picture below:

Weave the Hands through the strips like you see at the picture below.

Secure the hands using regular sewing thread and sewing needle.

Buttons
Yellow yarn

Make a foundation loop, HDC 10 around. Make two buttons.

Sew the buttons on.

Gloves
White yarn

Round 1. Work a foundation loop, HDC 8 around.

Round 2. Increasing. HDC 2 in each stitch = 16 total.

Round 3. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 2nd stitch = 24 total.

Round 4-10. HDC 24. Break the yarn.

Make two for each hand.

Stuff the gloves, but not tight.

Sew them onto the hands. Bend the tops like you see at the pictures.

Flatten, and make “fingers”. First put stitches using regular sewing needle and thread.
Then put some stitches using Black yarn.

Head
Beige yarn

Round 1. Work a foundation loop, HDC 8 around.

Round 2. Increasing. HDC 2 in each stitch = 16 total.

Round 3. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 2nd stitch = 24 total.

Round 4. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 3rd stitch = 32 total.

Round 5. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 4th stitch = 40 total.

Round 6. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 5th stitch = 48 total.

Round 7. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 6th stitch = 56 total.

Round 8. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 7th stitch = 64 total.

Round 9. HDC 64.

Break the yarn.

Make one more circle, using the same pattern. Do not break the yarn on the second
yet.

Join both circles together (backsides out) and work one round of SC.

Leave a hole 2-3 inches. Turn it inside out.

Stuff but not very tight.

Close the hole with SC. Break the yarn, hide the end inside.

Nose
Beige yarn
Round 1. Work a foundation loop, HDC 10 around.

Round 2. Increasing. HDC 2 in each stitch = 20 total.

Round 3. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 2nd stitch = 30 total.

Round 4−6. HDC 30.

Round 7. Decreasing. Work together every 2nd and 3rd stitches = 20 total.

Round 8. Decreasing. Work together every two stitches = 10 total.

Break the yarn.

Stuff the nose.

Eyes (White, Blue, and Black yarn)


White yarn
Round 1. Work a foundation loop, HDC 8 around.

Round 2. HDC 2 in next 2 sts; DC 2 in next 2 sts; HDC 2 in next 2 sts; DC 2 in next 2 sts.

Break the yarn. Make two.


Blue yarn
Round 1. Work a foundation loop; work around the loop HDC 2; DC 2; HDC 2; DC 2.

Break the yarn. Make two.

Black yarn, use smaller hook.


Round 1. Work a foundation loop; work around the loop SC 2; HDC 2; SC 2; HDC 2.

Break the yarn. Make two.

Arrange all parts of the eye together like you see at the picture below. Sew them
together using regular thread and sewing needle.
Make a pupil, using White yarn. (Just one stitch through all three layers.)

Black yarn
Make a chain CH 11, turn.
Row 1. Start working in the second stitch of the chain. Sl St 1, SC 1, HDC 1, DC 4, HDC 1, SC 1,
Sl St 1.
Break the yarn. Make two.

Mustache
Black yarn
Make a chain CH 19, turn.
Row 1. Start working in the second stitch of the chain. SC 18.

Row 3. Sl St 1 in the first, HDC 3 in next one, Sl St 1 in next;
Sl St 1 in next, DC 3 in next one, Sl St 1 in next;
Sl St 1 in next, DC 4 in next one, Sl St 1 in next;

Ears

Beige yarn

Take two strands of Beige yarn.

Make a chain CH 12, turn, HDC 12.

Break the yarn. Make two.

Red yarn

Round 1. Work a foundation loop, HDC 8 around.

Round 2. Increasing. HDC 2 in each stitch = 16 total.

Round 3. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 2nd stitch = 24 total.

Round 4. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 2nd stitch = 36 total.

Round 5. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 3rd stitch = 48 total.

Round 6. HDC 48.

Round 7. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 4th stitch = 60 total.

Round 8. Increasing. HDC 2 in every 5th stitch = 72 total.

Round 9. Back Loops Only. HDC 72.

Round 10. Decreasing. Work together every 5th and 6th stitches = 60 total.

Round 11. Decreasing. Work together every 4th and 5th stitches = 48 total.

Break the yarn.

Peak

Take two strands of Red yarn.

Row 1. Join two stranded yarn to any place and work HDC 16. Stop. Turn.

Row 2. HDC 16.

Row 3. 1st and 2nd together; HDC 1 in next 12 sts, the last two stitches together.

Break the yarn.

Hat Badge
White yarn

Round 1. Make a foundation loop, HDC 8 around.

Round 2. HDC 2 in each stitch = 16 total.

Break the yarn.

To make a letter “M” just weave Red yarn on the white circle. (Use yarn needle.)
