Matter
Matter
PLASMA- at very high temperatures of stars, atoms lose their electrons. The mixture of
electrons and nuclei that result is the plasma state of matter.
A chemical property is any material property that becomes evident during or after a chemical
reaction. Ex. Wood burns to form ash and smoke
A physical property characteristic of matter that is not associated with a change in its chemical
composition. Ex. Density, color, hardness, melting boiling points, and electrical conductivity

CHEMICAL REACTION
- a combination reaction is when two or more reactants unite to generate a single product. To put it
simply when two or more elements or chemicals react to generate a single molecule, the chemical
reaction is known as a combination reaction a synthesis reaction is another name for a combination
reaction. A + B = AB
- chemical decomposition, or chemical breakdown, is the process or effect of simplifying a single
chemical entity into two or more fragments, chemical decomposition is usually regarded and defined as
the exact opposite of chemical synthesis. AB= A, B
- single replacement reaction sometimes called a single displacement reaction in which one element is
substituted for another element in a compound. The starting materials are always pure elements, such
as pure zinc metal or hydrogen gas, plus an aqueous compound. AB + C = AC+B
- double replacement reaction is a reaction in which the positive and negative ions of two ionic
compounds exchange places to form two new compounds. The general form of a double replacement (
also called double replacement)
AB + CD = AD+CB
in this reaction, A and C are positively charged cations, anions’ double replacement reactions generally
occur between substances in an aqueous solution, in order for a reaction to occur, one of the products
is usually a solid precipitate, a gas, or a molecular compound such as water
CLASS OF MATTER
SUBSTANCE- one type of molecule/compound separated only chemically, element one, compound two
or more.
MIXTURE- two or more substances, homo, heterogenous.
