A study reported in Mayo Clinic

Proceedings revealed a lower risk
of recurrent kidney stone symp-
toms in people who had higher
dietary intake of calcium.*

The study enrolled 411 individu-

als who were symptomatic kid-
ney stone formers and 384 control
patients who did not have the con-
dition, following them for a median
of 4.1 years. Responses to ques-
tionnaires about diet at the begin-
ning of the study were analyzed for
the intake of various nutrients.

ment for various factors, lower
dietary calcium intake remained
a significant predictor of recurrent
symptoms.
