QUESTIONS

1. You have been deployed in rutakira, a refugee settlement with high rates of malnutrition among
U5 children ( GAM > 15%) . There are limited health programs with no direct nutrition support in
the health care system. As a newly recruited nutrition officer providing support to your program
officer, you are asked to be part of the team to curb the situation.
a) What program would you recommend to address the situation? ( 2 marks)
b) Describe in detail what the program entails and requirements. ( 23 marks)
c) How would you measure program performance for the entire program ( 10 marks)

2. In one of the district planning meetings for the development of the district nutrition action plan.
Maternal child nutrition for 2023, the District Health Officer has tasked you to support the district
with the input of drivers of maternal and child nutrition that the district can use as key
implementation strategies.

a) Describe in detail the input you would provide (10 marks)


b) Describe interventions aligning to the program that you would implement. (10 marks)

3. Action Against Hunger designed a care group approach to target communities with a primary
focus on women, men infants and young children and other at risk groups, the approach is a
gendered, grass-roots approach, directly tackling a package of the underlying behavioural causes
of malnutrition, irrespective of the particular manifestations.

a) Provide an overview of how the care group approach is rolled out in the community and what
activities are entailed. (15 marks)
b) Provide reasons why the care group approach is an ideal program strategy for nutrition (5 marks)
c) Give examples of actions you would undertake to support male enrolment into care groups and
ensure good male attendance over the course of the project (5 marks)
d) What would your role be as a nutrition focal in ensuring that there is maximum program
implementation (5 marks)?
