Content Standard Addressed: S2L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the life
cycles of different living organisms.
ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be
knowledge constructor1.3C able to do by the end of this lesson: Students
Students curate information from digital resources will be able to communicate information about
using a variety of tools and methods to the life cycle of a butterfly.
create collections of artifacts that
demonstrate meaningful connections or
conclusions.
What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea? Students will learn the life cycle of a
butterfly. The students will also be able to visually display as well as verbally state the cycle in its
sequence order.
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
Students will be able to evaluate the life cycle by viewing the process in an animated clip and be able to
create their own model of the butterfly life cycle.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
×☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation: Teachers will display a live video of the butterfly life cycle to start the
lesson. Students will be able to engage in the video by asking questions during stopping points
during the video presentation. Followed by the video students will use the web tool Blooket to
answer follow up questions. To conclude this activity students will work together to create a visual
representation of the butterfly life cycle.
Managing student learning: Yes, as the students begin the lesson, they will start out watching a 5–
6-minute video that details the life cycle. Then the students will be given the opportunity to play

against each other in the Blooket game in which they will answer questions for points. This should
take no more than 10-12 minutes. This allows time to answer questions that may be missed.
Concluding with students creating a poster/ or visual showing the life cycle with an estimated time
12 minutes.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Students will be able to remain engaged by visuals being given
as well as hands on opportunities to draw and create what they have learned.
Reflective Practice: I believe that Blooket will help the students because it can create a team
building activity where students help and encourage each to understand information to help find
answers in a game style. I’m looking forward to them using the Blooket tool and watching
successfully answer questions will having some fun.
