MODULE 1
LIBERATING COMMUNITIES
WITH MY GOD- GIVEN GIFTS
• This module aims to form and transform you to
become agents of liberation to those who are at the
peripheries.
• It also aims to let you share your gifts/talents to the
community where you reside and where you work.
• Further, it is for you to develop a habit to render a
holistic response not just to the favored members of
the society but also to the least, the lost and the last.
BIBLICAL READING:
PARABLE OF THE TALENTS
(MT. 25:14-30)
• 14 “It will be as when a man who was going on a journey
called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them.
• 15 To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third,
one—to each according to his ability. Then he went away.
• 16 Immediately the one who received five talents went and
traded with them, and made another five.
BIBLICAL READING:

• 17 Likewise, the one who received two made another
two.
• 18 But the man who received one went off and dug a hole
in the ground and buried his master’s money.
• 19 After a long time the master of those servants came
back and settled accounts with them.
• 20 The one who had received five talents came forward
bringing the additional five. He said, ‘Master, you gave me
five talents. See, I have made five more.’
• 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and
faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I
will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your
master’s joy.’
• 22 [Then] the one who had received two talents also came
forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. See, I
have made two more.’
• 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and
faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I
will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your
master’s joy.’
• 24 Then the one who had received the one talent came
forward and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a demanding
person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering
where you did not scatter;
• 25 so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the
ground. Here it is back.’
• 26 His master said to him in reply, ‘You wicked, lazy
servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant
and gather where I did not scatter?
• 27 Should you not then have put my money in the bank so
that I could have got it back with interest on my return?
• 28 Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the
one with ten.
• 29 For to everyone who has, more will be given and he
will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what
he has will be taken away.
• 30 And throw this useless servant into the darkness
outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’
REFLECTION
• The parable of the talents is commonly interpreted as a

commendation of the two servants that made one
hundred percent profit and a condemnation of the one
that made no profit, with the lesson that Christians should
use their natural capabilities to the full for the sake of
God’s kingdom.
REFLECTION
• Arland Hultgren (2000, 278-279) sees the meaning of

talent as embracing natural endowment and going
beyond it. For him the emphasis is on faithfulness in the
use of any gifts a disciple gets as being afraid to use them
means failure.
REFLECTION
• The parable is a reminder that these gifts are given to all
in various measure.
• As you reflect and do your journal, may you realize that as
a person and as a student of SLC a CICM school, you too
are gifted with various talents.
• May you use this talent without reservation to serve
others with integrity and compassion.

• As a student in the accounting or business field, teaching,

and etc., you are aware of the conditions of many poor
people in the community and of your God-given
responsibility to liberate.
• There are ways and means by which you can respond to
liberate those in dire need of help.

2. When confronted with choices between a friend in need
and someone less fortunate, do you exercise wise
judgment? How?

JOURNAL #2: “COME AND CELEBRATE WITH THE JOY
OF YOUR MASTER.”
• There is always joy in being one with the community when
you selflessly give your best for the common good.
• An ounce of kindness, though small, would mean so much
joy to the lost, the least and the last.
• As a future professional in the accounting or business
field, may you be a source of Joy to everyone you will
encounter.

you publicly support a work rule or policy but privately fail
