Lesson 6: SOCIAL.LITERACY
1. What is social literacy ?
The term "social literacy" refers to the ability to establish social interactions and
deal with the understanding of social skills, organizational skills, and, most
importantly, communication skills. This also implies that each of one us has the
ability to effectively connect with those around us. However, interacting with our
peers, family, colleagues, teachers, and even strangers we may not have met in
person still be a part of the essence of depicting what’s social literacy must be.
As an individual, we tend to communicate with others because it will help us also
to understand people’s diversity.
2. Explain social skills. Cite the impact of social literacy and suggest strategies and
tools to improve it.
Social skills are those that we have acquired at home and at school. It is
essential for successful life functioning. These abilities enable people to know
what to say, how to make good choices, and how to behave appropriately in
various situations. Social skills are behavioral components that assist an
individual in understanding and adapting to a variety of social settings. To give
support to the statements, according to Allan, Bellack, Mueser, Susan Gingerich,
and Julie (2004), Social skills are the specific behavior people use when
interacting with others that enable them to be effective at achieving their personal
goals. Situations such as having a casual conversation, making friends,
expressing feelings, or obtaining something from others all require the use of
social skills. Good social skills include both what is said during social interaction
and how it is said. In conclusion, learning social skills improves students'
communication with peers and adults, fosters cooperative teamwork, and
prepares them to be effective, caring, and concerned members of their
communities. At the same time, it teaches them how to set and achieve individual
goals, as well as how to persevere, which are essential skills for their successful
transition into adulthood, work, and life.

In my own point of view, we can say that a person is emotionally intelligent once
he/she can recognize their own emotions and understand what they're telling
you, and also realize how their emotions affect those around them. Just like
understanding what you can feel to other people that will help us manage a good
relationship more effectively. People with emotional intelligence are able to
control their emotions and produce positive results. Most likely, they are the
people who never get tired of giving a helping hand to everyone. They have a
good sense of empathy toward other people. Then once people are connected
with their own emotions, they’re better able to relate to others. They can imagine
how different situations might feel and provide support accordingly.
As a student, I can say that skills are ability that refers to the potential of a person
to do something exceptionally well. Most likely developed skills I had observed,
some people who are really good in their speaking skills which brings an
extensive impact to our lives. Once, you have that kind of development
“Speaking Skills” you may tend to be a good speaker and able to speak
eloquently in front of many people. A good speaker enables one to inspires
others. In addition, how would achieve this kind of skill “Communication Skills”? I
have once been told, in order to achieve it, make reading will be your number
one hobby. When people love reading they are the kind of people who has a lot
of ideas because of the information obtained from reading books, journals, and
even article. In that case, it helps people expand their knowledge and that is what
makes them good speakers were able to speak up and communicate with those
who would listen to them.
5. How can you practice social literacy in delivering a lesson in the classroom?
unique skills and experiences that can enhance the culture of their classroom.
Take the time to learn about your student’s values, as well as their strengths and
weaknesses. Engage in conversations, distribute surveys to students, or ask
questions on exit slips. Learn about hobbies and interests that you can
incorporate into your lesson plans. Beyond his or her cultural identity, it is critical
to make a concerted effort to understand each student as a distinct and complex
individual. This will assist you in developing engaging lessons that can bridge
cultural gaps.

Talking about media literacy implies the ability to apply critical thinking to media
messages and how a message can be analyzed and evaluated. At some point,
media literacy emerges as a result of the invention of media technology that
helps to empower people to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and
active citizens. Being literate in a media age requires critical thinking skills that
empower us as we make decisions, whether in the classroom, the living room,
the workplace, the boardroom, or the voting booth.
The role of media literacy helps to a widespread factual and reliable source of
information about current events. It enables people to make informed decisions
about how they participate in peacebuilding, equality, freedom of expression,
dialogue, access to information, and sustainable development. Media will serve
as a backbone of providing us with a real state of good information to fight for a
cause against spreading fake news. However, as individuals we must develop
expertise with the increasingly sophisticated information and entertainment
media that address us on a multi-sensory level, influencing the way we think,
feel, and behave in order to be successful students, responsible citizens, and
productive workers in our beloved community. In addition, we observed that in
today’s information and entertainment technologies communicate to us through a
powerful combination of words, images, and sounds. As such, we need to
develop a wider set of literacy skills helping us to both comprehend the
messages we receive and effectively utilize these tools to design and distribute
our messages.

The aspects of Media and Information Literacy is the knowledge, attitudes, and
some of the skills required to know when and what information is required where
and how to obtain that information, how to critically evaluate and organize it once
found, and how to use it ethically. In addition, media Information Literacy (MIL)
has had a significant impact on people's lives since the advent of modern
civilization. It encourages people to think critically about information and to use
digital tools. In education, media helps to foster our ability to think critically,
improve our problem-solving skills, and nourish our decision-making abilities. To
give a thorough understanding of the media and information literacy dimensions.
It was how media gives information a reliable source, and how the information is
processed and delivered.

Lesson 8: FINANCIAL LITERACY
1. What is financial literacy? Explain.
Financial literacy is the ability to understand and effectively use various financial
skills, including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. If you
are the kind of person who understands the value of money so you tend to
properly manage your money for future investment. When we understand the
value of money, we are able to handle our finances in a better way. We will be
able to know the importance of budgeting, saving, and avoiding unnecessary
expenditures.
Our top priorities are safety and protection. It is essential to safeguard ourselves
from fraudulent people. It is financial fraud can cause you to lose your hard-
earned savings. In order to avoid it you must put it in mind the following tips and
ways that I am going to share. First, as an individual, we have to protect our
personal information. Be mindful to not easily give all your IDs, passwords, and
PIN numbers to anyone whom you don’t know. This would allow the fraud to
access money and assets from your banks and investments. Keep all such
information confidential and safe, and update your passwords and PIN numbers
periodically. Second, online security, with the rise of online banking, trading, and
transactions, the internet has become a popular hunting ground for fraudsters.
Common methods for obtaining information about you include fraudulent
websites and fictitious emails. Your own online practices can significantly reduce
the risks of financial scams. Lastly, be careful when transferring money,
impersonation is the most common type of fraud. You may be contacted by
someone or an institution claiming to work for you or represent a financial
company or the government in order to obtain money from you. Fraudsters may
contact you via phone, email, or text message. By that, don’t easily believe in it
for us to be safe.

Lesson 9: DIGITAL/CYBER LITERACY
1. How do you define cyber/digital literacy & cybersecurity?
Digital literacy refers to the skills necessary to live, study, and work in a society
where communication and information access are increasingly mediated by
technologies such as the internet, social media, and mobile devices. Cyber
literacy, however, refers to the capacity to utilize computer technology
successfully while also recognizing the repercussions of one's activities.
Cybersecurity, however, is the use of technology, procedures, and policies to
guard against cyberattacks on systems, networks, programs, devices, and data.
The rights, benefits, and duties that internet and cellular network users must
uphold are referred to as cyber citizenship. Furthermore, it is an ancient virtue
that is used in the modern digital age. Doing something on the Internet when no
one is looking seems to be comparable to battling oneself to do what is right and

3. What are netiquette and the process of safety use of digital media? Give
examples.
4. What are the common computer threats and how can these be fixed?
Computer threats include anything that has the potential to cause significant
damage to a computer system. These are events that may or may not occur, but
if they do, they may cause severe harm and lead to an attack on a computer
system or network. Consequently, many computer viruses may propagate.
Consequently, the following are useful solutions and measures to stop the
spread. This includes installing anti-virus software, ensuring that the anti-virus
software is current, employing a firewall to protect networks, filtering all email
traffic, educating all users to be wary of suspicious emails, scanning internet
downloads, not running programs of unknown origin, implementing a vulnerability
management system, making regular backups of critical data, developing an
information security policy, monitoring logs and systems, and creating an incident
response plan.
Cybercrime is the theft of data, money, property, or anything else of value over
the Internet. Hacking gangs known as "Adversaries" or "Adversary Groups" are
often responsible for cybercrime. Examples of cybercrime include the Target and

6. How can you practice the processes of interact exploration, source citation,
research and data gathering protocols, and website evaluation?
Finding ways for students to practice using technology in ways that mirror its
real-world applications is an important aspect of teaching digital literacy, whether
this involves giving students opportunities to build their own websites and apps or
participating in online discussions with respect. Kids will understand the
importance of digital literacy as they begin cyber/literacy-related activities and
motivation.

Lesson 10: ECO-LITERACY
1. How can eco-literacy contribute in developing a sustainable environment?
Eco-literacy is the power that comes from the knowledge and consciousness of
how nature’s living systems operate. As the world continues to run out of clean
air, water, and space, all people will face the consequences on a global scale.
Human survival is dependent on the conservation of natural resources, the
reduction of widespread environmental pollution, the resolution of climatic issues
caused by global warming, and, ultimately, the creation of a sustainable future.
Sustainability refers to the conservation, protection, and regeneration of
resources that affect human health and well-being, the environment, and the

Nature knows best - This is the most basic principle, and it encompasses
all of the others. Humans must understand nature and follow the rules it
delineates. In essence, if one wants to ensure a continuous and steady
supply of resources, one must not go against natural processes. If we,
humans, caused any disruption in the cycle of nature, this can bring
imbalance to our ecosystem.
All forms of life are important – Each organism plays a fundamental role in
nature. It is easy to appreciate beautiful organisms like butterflies,
especially if one knows their important role in pollination. The giant ones
like elephants, whales, the alligators – are the ones we respect mixed with
fear or wonder and the products they produce. But when it comes to
unlovely, squirmy, and troublesome creatures, this principle is unusually
overlooked.
Everything is connected to everything else - In an ecosystem, all biotic
and abiotic components interact with each other to ensure that the system
is sustained. Any intrusion from outside may cause an imbalance and
collapsing of the system.
Everything Changes - The environment is constantly changing. Organisms
also develop through time. However, with our current technology, we have
affected these natural changes that these changes now cause problematic
events to us. Humans should rethink their relationship with the
environment. Because what we believe is beneficial to the environment
often turns out to be catastrophic.
Everything must go somewhere - Everything ends up elsewhere. It doesn’t
just disappear. For example, if you throw a piece of candy wrapper away,
it disappears from sight but does not cease to exist. It ends up elsewhere.
Gases released in the atmosphere may spread but it will end up a
component of the atmosphere and can be brought down by rains. Any
particular type of waste should always be a concern to us. It may be a
pollutant or a resource depending on certain factors. Be a responsible
person and throw your trash in a proper place.
Ours is a finite earth - Earth’s resources can be classified as either
renewable or non-renewable. Renewable resources are those that can be
easily replenished by natural cycles (e.g. water, air, plants, animals) while
non-renewable resources are those that cannot be replenished through
natural cycles. Although renewable resources can be replenished, it is

There are countless features you can do as a teacher to make your classroom
and school more environmentally friendly. The possibilities are endless, from
recycling to planting gardens to using solar panels to obtaining a green seal.
Furthermore, teaching students about green practices fosters a lifelong interest in
environmental conservation. These concepts contribute to the establishment of a
green school and classroom.
