The Philippine Government, His Excellency, President Rodirigo Roa Duterte with the full cooperation
with the Secretary of the Department of Health headed by Dr. Francisco Duque, carried much a heavy
load, in the need to respond to protect the life of every Filipino of any age from getting sick against
COVID-19. As the pandemic, the COVID 19 exploded and made its full blast in a bulls eyed strike covering
the whole world of the killer virus, putting the life of the people in doom, where people have can no
longer find a safer place to live. Everyone’s life at a sudden was an inch to life and death situation;
“Nagbantay sa lugas lanot nga kinabuhi.”
Inter-Agency Task Force (AITF) was formed to help in managing the situation caused the spread of the
deadly virus. They stream the Do’s and Don’ts policies for the Filipinos to strictly follow in avoidance of
spreading more of the disease and of losing more lives.
In this, the Department of Education (DepEd) through the Secretary Leonor Magtulis Briones,
announced the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels. Despite of having to stop the face-to-face
classes due to the pandemic, educating the younger generation must not stop. It must not hinder the
learners to learn. Indeed, the Department of Education designed the different types of Modalities in
Learning that will nurture and inspire learners to actively participate, cooperate and collaborate in the
continued learning using Activity Sheets, Self-Learning Modules, and Videos and Audio Lesson from
different platforms such as radios, televisions, Google Classroom and even in Facebook (Messenger).
In the third-year existence of the pandemic, School Year 2021-2022, on the 13 th day of September,
Coronon Elementary School re-opened the classes continuing the Modular Teaching and Learning
process. After ten (10) months of going to school, classes ended on the 24 th day of June, where in
teachers has to make assessment or evaluation of his or her performance using the Results-Based
Performance Management System (RPMS) tool.
That in KRA 3 – Diversity of Learners, Curriculum and Planning and Assessment and Reporting of
Objective 9, where us, teachers were asked to design, adopt and implement teaching strategies that are
responsive to learners with disabilities, giftedness and talents. And that, in the Means of Verification Set
A and Set B we are asked to choose, I personally prefer Set B. Thus, identifying pupils with learning
disabilities giftedness and talents has no proof of possibilities and evidences to shows because of the
absence of having face-to-face classes.
During this pandemic, evaluation and assessment of my pupils’ academic achievements were processed
through the checking of modules and recording of scores. Assessment in Reading Readiness in my
section Grade 2 Zinnia were done via phone call.
That I, Denie M. Coronel, 57 years old, Teacher II with 32 years of experience at Coronon Elementary
School, of Santa Cruz North District in the Division of Davao del Sur has identified that out of my 29
pupils officially enrolled in the Learners Information System (LIS) of having no learners with disabilities
such as mentally retarded, impaired hearing, with behavior problems, orthopedically handicapped, with
special health problems, learning disabled speech impaired and multiple handicapped.
Thus, these learners with giftedness or talent are non-visible in my Grade Two section Zinnia for the
School Year 2021-2022.
