Note: the part in contact with joint splint must have correct shape.
3.2.1 The length of light rails shall comply with the stipulations of Table 3.
Table 3
3.2.2 The delivery quantity of short light rails (no less than 4m) shall not exceed 3% of the
total weight of that batch.
3.2.3 The tolerance of light rail length shall comply with the stipulations in Table 4.
Table 4
3.3 Shape
3.3.1.1 The curvature of light rail shall not exceed 3mm per meter, the overall curvature no
more than 0.3%.
For 9 and 12kg/m light rails, the curvature shall not exceed 1mm within 250mm from
the end.
For 15, 22 and 30kg/m light rails, the curvature shall not exceed 1mm within 500mm
from the end.
3.3.2 Torsion
The inclination at the end faces of 9, 12 and 15kg/m light rails shall not exceed 3mm in
any direction.
The inclination at the end faces of 22 and 30kg/m light rails shall not exceed 1mm in
any direction.
4 Delivery weight
The light rails shall be delivered in theoretical weight. Delivery in actual weight is also
possible upon mutual agreement between the supplier and the buyer and indication in
Contract.
5 Technical requirements
5.1.1 The grades, chemical composition (melting analysis) of the light rail steel shall comply
with the stipulations in Table 5.
5.1.2 In case the 55Q grade has carbon content over 0.60%-0.70%, it may be used to roll
15-30kg/m light rails, but the elongation δ5 should not be less than 9% and the rail web
should be marked with (Ι).
The light rails shall be fabricated by steel from open-hearth furnace, oxygen converter
or EAF.
5.4.1 The mechanic property and technical performance of light rails shall comply with Table
6.
5.4.2 If the supplier can guarantee the tensile strength, drop hammer test and hardness, the
hardness test can be saved, but either the tensile strength test or drop hammer test
must be done.
5.4.3 For the light rails rolled with continuous cast slabs, the performance data shall be
agreed upon by the supplier and the buyer.
5.5.2 No crack, overlap or scab is allowed on the light rail surface. Local scratch or pit with
depth no more than 0.75mm is allowed.
On the rail web outside the splint (fish-plate) and on its adjacent two slopes, projection
with height no more than 2mm is allowed. The projection within the area in contact with
splint shall be removed.
5.5.3 It is allowed to clean the local defects on light rail surface but the cleaning depth shall
be no more than 1.5mm.
5.5.4 The bolt hole surface shall be smooth and free of crack. The bur shall be no more than
2mm in height.
6 Test method
6.1 The sampling position and test method for inspecting each batch of light rail shall
comply with stipulation in Table 7.
6.2 Dropping hammer test: a sample with length no less than 1,500mm shall be cut from
each batch and placed on hard-base racks (arranged at interval of 1,050mm) with the
rail head facing up. Strike the rail with 500kg hammer at the height specified in Table 8.

7 Acceptance regulations
The light rails shall be inspected and accepted by the Supplier’s quality supervision
department.
The light rails shall be inspected and accepted in batches. Each batch shall consists of
light rails of same grade, same type and same heat No. or light rails of same grade,
same type, same melting method but different heat number. Each batch shall be no
more than 200t, but the carbon content difference between the heat No. shall be no
more than 0.05% and the Mn content difference no more than 0.15%.
The sampling quantity for light rail quality inspection shall comply with the stipulations
The light rails re-inspection and evaluation rules shall comply with the stipulations in
GB 2101.
8.1 The light rails shall be delivered in bundles. Each bundle shall be attached with a
minimum of two nameplates indicating the manufacturer’s sign, brand name, heat
(batch) No. and type.
8.2 For 15-30kg/m light rails, convex indication of type and manufacturer’s signs shall be
rolled on the web of each rail.
8.3 The quality certificate of light rails shall comply with the stipulations of GB 2101.
Additional indication
Upon the effective date of this standard, YB 220-78 “ Technical conditions of light rail” issued by
former Metallurgical Industry Ministry is invalid. YB 226-63 “ Category of light rail” become
invalid on Jan. 1, 1993.
